Can you really not get contraceptive sponges any more?

I used to use them years ago, and recently thought I'd like to do so again, but it seems they're no longer available in the UK... Does anyone know why, or if there is anything similar that can be bought?

Thanks :)

Were that the sea sponges?

They're totally unreliable. I'm definitely not the only person who has a "sponge baby".

I've never even heard of them!

Former GUM clinic nurse here 👋

Sponges haven't been available in the UK for a little while, I only saw them a handful of times from women who had got them in other countries.

What was/is it you liked about the sponge?

If you liked the fact you can preemptively pop it in and not worry in the moment maybe a cap or diaphragm? Little old school for some people's tastes but same basic principle.

Can you use a sea sponge with spermicide? Do NOT blame me if you end up with a new member of the family Grin

Try one of these (you can also get them free at NHS sexual health clinics)

Do NOT use a sea sponge. There is no way to sterilize them or prevent them from breaking down
