Shrunk wool :(

I've shrunk a very expensive merino cardigan by accidentally using the wrong setting on my washing machine Sad
Hoping against hope some lovely mumsnetter has a tip to unshrink wool that I haven't thought of
Or alternatively a suggestion for what I can upcycle the cardigan into

Googling suggests using a wool wash or conditioner solution to help stretch it

If it’s felted it’s too late. If it’s just smaller then wash it in lukewarm water in the bath with hair conditioner, leave it soaking for a while and then take out and stretch it by hand then lay it on a towel to dry.

Borax is your friend… dissolve in warm water then add cold to make the temp drop to lukewarm. Soak and then stretch. Have done this myself several times.

I've managed to rescue a pair of woollen gloves that had shrunk and slightly felted by soaking them in a solution of fabric conditioner. I had to continually stretch them back to shape as they were air drying. Best of luck with your cardigan, that's a much bigger task!
