Would you rather live by the coast or in the country?

And why?

I can't decide but I'm leaning towards the coast because I've never lived by the coast and I'd hope, depending upon where, there might be more to do. Although if it's touristy then you have the crowds to contend with and out of season it might feel bleak when so many things shut down.

Country. The novelty of the sea where’s off very quickly for me- plus I need more of a variety of wildlife.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 20/07/2021 16:28

*wears off.

Not a big beach fan!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/07/2021 16:28

I love living on the coast, the only thing is you've only got half the area to visit (unless you sail)!

Landslidelife · 20/07/2021 16:29

Depending on tourism I'd prefer coast (if it was quiet). Although near a river /lake would also be nice (I currently live in a rural village and count myself lucky to do so).

Myplantsare · 20/07/2021 16:29

Country every time. Love trees, hills and rivers. Not so the sea and it's always windier!

DamsonJammyBastard · 20/07/2021 16:30

By the sea, although not in a resort type seaside town.

I feel both invigorated and soothed by the sea.

Good point about wildlife. Watching wildlife is one of my favourite things.

Both. (Grew up in south Dorset.)

DeadButDelicious · 20/07/2021 16:31

The coast. I love the sea and the beach. I wouldn't want to live somewhere to touristy though.

VeryLongBeeeeep · 20/07/2021 16:34

Coast. I've lived in both and both are lovely in different ways but there's something about having the beach almost to yourself on early mornings and winter days. I'm lucky though, the stretch of coast I live close to is beautiful but not particularly touristy, so even on hot summer days it's not ridiculously overrun.

gillysSong · 20/07/2021 16:35

Both.

corkernewyorker · 20/07/2021 16:38

Both. And am lucky to have both on my doorstep now. Good luck in your hunting.

HollyGoLoudly1 · 20/07/2021 16:38

Coast. No contest. The water is so soothing and peaceful.

MedusasBadHairDay · 20/07/2021 16:42

I love the coast, but having lived there I spent the summer being annoyed at the crowds making it difficult to just do normal day to day things. So I think I'd have to say country, but not too far from the coast so I could do a day trip if I fancied it.

gogohm · 20/07/2021 16:42

I'm by the sea on the edge of a nature reserve, also only 30 mins into city centre, good all around

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/07/2021 16:44

Coast, but not somewhere touristy. We're going to move to the coast eventually, and I will be swimming every chance I get. I love the sea.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 20/07/2021 16:46

The country for me, I'd rather be surrounded by trees than anything else.

DinaofCloud9 · 20/07/2021 16:48

The coast. I couldn't live inland. I find the sea lifts my mood.

Wormholes · 20/07/2021 16:50

Country.

I live 8 miles from the sea. Never go.

Give me the woods and fields any day.

Classica · 20/07/2021 16:50

You can do both, OP.

Kanaloa · 20/07/2021 16:50

Well I live by the sea now, so I’d choose that! The crowds in the summer are a bit annoying but you get used it.

RandomMess · 20/07/2021 16:51

I live on the doorstep of both 🤷🏽‍♀️

LadyCatStark · 20/07/2021 16:51

I live in the countryside, by the sea 🥰.

PickAChew · 20/07/2021 16:52

I wouldn't want to live on the coast but after a few years in the Midlands I never want to live where I'm not a short journey from the coast ever again.

I have the best of all worlds in Durham. Easy walk to the city centre, just a handful of buildings between me and countryside, surrounded by nature reserves in the city itself, easy journey to the coast.

alloalloallo · 20/07/2021 16:53

I have both

Tbh, they both get taken for granted but we use the beach more than the countryside.

We pretty much lived at the beach when my kids were small, now I walk the dog down there, take a BBQ down there sometimes but rarely go the other way into the fields
