Would you rather live by the coast or in the country?

And why?

I can't decide but I'm leaning towards the coast because I've never lived by the coast and I'd hope, depending upon where, there might be more to do. Although if it's touristy then you have the crowds to contend with and out of season it might feel bleak when so many things shut down.

Coast. I'd move in a heartbeat if it was possible, and I could find somewhere with the right facilities.

noodlezoodle · 20/07/2021 21:30

I live in a coastal city on the edge of a national park, it's amazing Grin It is very windy however!

RandomMess · 20/07/2021 21:31

My youngest and friends are currently sea swimming practically have this section of the bay to ourselves.

LemonRoses · 20/07/2021 21:39

I’m greedy, so both. I never tire of the sea but like the village culture that is only available rurally. Where we are is pretty perfect - tiny villages but sea five miles away.

HPLikecraft · 20/07/2021 21:50

I'm another one who has both. Can't not be by the sea... or in the country!
I'll leave here either kicking and screaming or in a box.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 20/07/2021 21:53

If you had to pick, I’d pick country. I never tire of the coast but I live in the country with a 40 minute drive to the coast. That’s good enough for me.

MiniTheMinx · 20/07/2021 21:57

Country, I need trees and fields.

I think I'm quite lucky here. I'm living in the area of South downs national park, less than five minutes and I'm on the downs. I can see the downs from my sitting room window and a castle.

This evening we went for a walk, we saw the castle, old buildings, went over the downs, and could see the sea. Its 15 minutes by car to the coast. I love the coast in winter, but the idea of spending time on a crowded beach is my idea of hell. And whilst I like walking the beach in winter I might not like to be wet and windswept every time i leave home.

OrangeBananaFish · 20/07/2021 21:57

I currently live in the countryside which I love, but there is something soothing about the sound of the sea. Although its always colder on the coast and I hate being cold so probably the countryside, but near a river or waterfall. I love the sound of the water crashing.

olympicsrock · 20/07/2021 21:59

Just about to move to Dorset / Hampshire border.Akso had this dilemma but went for countryside everyday abs an easy trip to the beach 20 mins by car.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 20/07/2021 22:00

Coast

Which is lucky cos we live near the coast

Gertie75 · 20/07/2021 22:00

Country without a doubt, I do love the sea but couldn't be doing with the constant wind, the regular mist and how crap makes your hair feel.
We do have some great beaches but I hate the look of the flat, bleak ones with no cliffs or decent waves.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 20/07/2021 22:00

I live by the sea in the countryside

Notlostjustexploring · 20/07/2021 22:02

The coast. I like the country, currently live in a rural area, but I have horrible hay-fever so can't fully enjoy the country for 25% of the year.
And I do love the sea.

Pandora64 · 20/07/2021 22:04

If I had to pick I’d say countryside but only because (a) I have the impression that it’s difficult to have a nice garden near the coast and (b) after reading another thread today I’m scared of being mobbed by seagulls! They sound terrifying!

FoolsAssassin · 20/07/2021 22:07

Country. We’re 7 miles from the coast but rarely go. I like woods and fields. Beaches and sand do very little for me.

speakout · 20/07/2021 22:07

Both.

I love in the country very near the coast. Very few tourists.

Blindleadingtheblind · 20/07/2021 22:08

Coast by a country mile! I love the sea, feel like I belong there.

EwwSprouts · 20/07/2021 22:10

Coast every time. Dates back to a childhood home where we could see the sea from the kitchen.

makingmyway10 · 20/07/2021 22:30

Live in the countryside and have a home by the sea Smile

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/07/2021 22:36

Both but if I had to choose it would definitely be coast. I'm lucky enough to live near both.

MazDazzle · 20/07/2021 22:37

The coast! Good for the soul.

FunnysInLaJardin · 20/07/2021 22:39

Both. I live 2 mins from the sea in the depth of the country. Its bliss

Garfunkle · 20/07/2021 22:39

I live a 2 minute walk from the beach. My garden opens onto a forest. I absolutely love it here - except for one set of rowdy neighbours, but that’s another thread.

Would I prefer to live near the sea or woodland?🤔

Honestly I don’t know. I can’t imagine living without either. Pushed for an answer I would have to let someone else choose 😬

Thisnamewasnttaken123 · 20/07/2021 22:40

Countryside for me I absolutely love it.

vinoandbrie · 20/07/2021 22:40

By the coast - I was brought up by the coast and miss it.
