Fucking awful day at work, want to cry.

Care home.

Anti-vaxxer brought covid in. Loads of staff down.

Just me with four adults with LD who are supposed to be 1:1. As well as laundry, cleaning, piles of paperwork, meals to cook and other general stuff.

Am exhausted and sweaty and counting down the minutes until I leave.

Fed up. Actually might cry when I get home.

Tell me about your wanky colleagues. I need entertaining (and cheering up).

I’m so sorry.
Not current colleague but a few years back. Union rep twat, thought he was everyone’s champion. Used to talk so much about his sex life and go on about his wife AND girlfriend… tried to describe polyamory to anyone who would listen and no one actually give a fuck.
He used to go on about these posh as fuck meals he’d eat because he was VERY refined you know, but he was the scruffiest git you’d ever meet.
Turned out two women had put in complaints against him for being misogynistic as fuck, one from our work and one from the union. OM had a word and said take redundancy or there will be an investigation… he left.
He’s since told people he’s been headhunted into his new job… but he works on the phone in a call centre (nothing wrong with that at all but according to him he’s working in some high up IT job). Absolute arse hole

thelastgoldeneagle · 19/07/2021 19:51

So sorry, op.

I thought staff had to be vaxxed to work in a care home?

Sending you wine and a cool fan. Hope all residents and staff are ok.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 19/07/2021 19:57

Nope. Anti-vaxxers are still welcome to work on care homes.

It’s insane.

So sorry op. That sounds such a shitty day. Bloody anti-vaxxers. If they don't want to take the vaccine that's their right, but they don't have the right to go and put other people at risk.

RicherThanYew · 19/07/2021 19:58

I worked in a takeaway as a teenager. I was working alone on one shift and my boobs were really painful because Id put on my (skinny) sisters bra so I had double boob. I went out the back to fix the boob situation and tried pushing my boobs to the sides of the hell-bra, bit better right? Nope. A male customer was watching my reflection in the window and he shouted "phwoar, dont stop on my account love". I was 15, bleurgh.
On a serious note, you sound like you've had a hell of a day Op, do you have a plan I'm place to cheer yourself up a bit later? A pint, a book, chocolate, favourite music or tv?

Colleague came into work knowing they had Covid and passed it along to me. Isolation has crawled by at snails pace and I’ve developed asthmatic type symptoms that the doctor wants to see me for now.

CommanderBurnham · 19/07/2021 20:02

I hear ya!

Wanky colleague keeps going out and self isolating.

So we've been told that from august the something, 2 x vaxxed don't have to self isolate after a negative pcr test even if they've been pinged. So if you are an anti vaxxer then you get to self isolate fully paid while you're colleagues do your job as well as theirs.

I'm CEV, frontline, double vaxxed and getting penalised for it.

Lou197 · 19/07/2021 20:04

Guess that's another one! Hope you have a lovely relaxing evening - you deserve it !

This is the stupidest comment I’ve read on Mumsnet for along time!

It sounds like your workplace needs to stop paying people to self isolate once the new rules come in.

I have some wanky colleagues too. Most recent was a few weeks ago. She had really nasty cough and had lost her sense of taste and smell, but didn't get a test because she had no temperature- although she obviously knew she should've done because when the boss asked her she lied and said she had been tested. Following week another colleague who works closely with her tested positive causing around 20 others to have to isolate. I work in a nursery so that number is mostly young children, meaning parents having to take time off work etc. Obviously no link to the original person because she didn't bother testing, so we'll never know but there's obviously a chance she passed it on!

CommanderBurnham · 19/07/2021 20:27

@OddBoots I agree! But then I have a lot of sympathy for the genuine cases too.
It's just shit. We've had to cancel lists and lists because of staff shortages. The worst thing is that they go out together 🙄

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 19/07/2021 20:41

He had baked in BO.

Literally. Baked in, mustn't have washed from one week to another.

He also had a weepy back that always used to bleed through his shirt and he would wear the same shirt for days.

God he was a scruffy git and I can smell him now.

He also tried to correct our Indian colleague on how to say Biryani.

Who did?
PizzaCrust · 19/07/2021 21:01

Arsehole manager had changed from restaurant hospitality to events hospitality where I worked. Came back from holiday to him (new manager) where I was a supervisor and had been with the company for a couple of years.

For some reason, he took a real dislike to me. No idea why, I kept to myself and was nothing but polite to him. Anyway, before he pushed me to the point of quitting, he would

  • constantly make digs at me in front of everyone, embarrassing me and making me look unable to do the job
  • would patronise me constantly, one great example was him showing me how to wipe down a table
  • micromanaged me to death even when he still didn’t know the ins and outs of the business and how we did things
  • bullied me and pushed me to tears regularly, to the point where other (male) supervising staff noticed how bad he was being to me and wanted me to complain, as well as our main manager taking me to the side and telling me to ignore him, I was doing a great job and I only had to worry about his option not this other wanker’s

I left, anyway. As soon as I did he started bullying my (female) friend and continued on with the same patronising, rude crap he had with me.

He eventually left the company and fucked off to Australia. Where, for the love of god, I hope the prick stays. Absolute cunt and hands down, the worst person I have, and likely will ever, work with.

Mumvschildren · 19/07/2021 21:30

I used to work with a few

One stank-I mean really stank-I could smell him outside
I had to train him as nobody else would
I’d show him what to do,he’d smile and nod then carry on doing things his way
We had so many complaints due to the fact he was rude and useless
Part of the job was cleaning up after customers-he’d just walk past the mess/leave the brush and pan so anyone could have fallen over it
He never mopped the floor-you where lucky if he swept up
Any sign of the boss and he’d fuck off into the gents-leaving us to do his job

A lass I worked with-lazy to the point of it being terminal
I’ve never met anyone like her-she’d look really busy but if you really looked she was doing nothing-she’d think nothing of dumping all her work on others
She’d hide in the toilets for at least half the shift
She’d lie through her back teeth to make herself look good/drop you in it-she was known to be a tattle tale
She was known for all this,so work gave her a promotion!

MrsF111 · 19/07/2021 22:01

Sounds like an awful day but people who have had one vaccination or even 2 can still transmit it, and someone might have a genuine concern about getting vaccinated so it’s a little judgemental. It could have happened to most people if they have gone to the supermarket of on public transport

Dizzy1234 · 19/07/2021 22:12

New colleague, she's been with the company a month, same role, different teams, wfh.
I stupidly offered support now I'm doing her work & my own whilst she lays in bed, goes to the gym, the shopping centre and in her spare time is watching TV.
I want to report her but haven't got the balls to do it.
Skyped her and said does she want me to show her a certain task she said "nah, you do it"
I need to grow a pair & tell her manager, I'm working up to it

Willowwisp23 · 19/07/2021 22:13

Being vaccinated doesn't mean you can't get or transmit covid. This 'anti-vaxer' is no different to you or any of your jabbed colleagues. The vaccines are not the saviour some people believe them to be.

Changemaname1 · 19/07/2021 22:16

Yeh have to agree ( as a vaccinated person ) they could still have brought Covid in if not vaccinated

People not isolating when they should do however piss me off ( had this at My work )

Changemaname1 · 19/07/2021 22:16

Sorry I meant still bring it in even if vaccinated . Doh!

OP it sounds as though you work in exactly the same setting as I do. My line manager is an anti-vaxxer. She was responsible for bringing in Covid to the setting last September. Another regular staff member also won't have the vaccine. In my view all care staff should have the vaccine or look for another job.
ButForTheGrace · 19/07/2021 22:23

Office of 30 people. Last Wednesday afternoon a colleague says he's just received a positive PCR test via text - said he'd being feeling crap for a few days; headache, sore throat, etc, but thought it couldn't be covid as he's double jabbed. All sent home for rest of week to await test and trace calls 😢
