If you are a police officer at a London protest today, I take my hat off to you.

I don’t know how they’re doing it. It’s boiling and they are in full gear, while having people swarming around. Some up in their faces shouting abuse.

I just want to thank you for the job that you do.

Guessing you meant he Parliament Square one? Evening Standard description sounds awful....photos look worse.

^Footage shared online shows a group of bald, middle-aged men squaring up to police officers, throwing bottles and shouting abuse.

Many of the largely male crowd appear to have removed their tops amid sweltering weather conditions and several have brought children along to the event^

D*ckheads. Yes, feel sorry for cops in full uniform. The body armour& other gear they wear weighs up to 10Kg for a start.

Why are the anti-lockdowners protesting when we don’t have lockdown anymore?

JassyRadlett · 19/07/2021 17:40

@Billlius

Why are the anti-lockdowners protesting when we don’t have lockdown anymore?
Because their real problem is a general sense of disgruntlement that the world doesn’t operate exactly as they want it to, but that looks crap on a placard?
Thurlow · 19/07/2021 17:44

They need a “Down with that sort of thing” placard to cover all bases.

But thank you, OP. DH has worked many a protest or demo like that in a heatwave and he always comes home looking wrecked. They never have the ability to have enough to drink. It’s really nice to see someone acknowledge it Smile

DogsSausages · 19/07/2021 17:46

Whats this protest about this time

Whiskycav · 19/07/2021 17:48

New is saying that even Lawrence Fox doesn't know what they are there for.

Though I can imagine this briefing will just drive them even more.

bonfireheart · 19/07/2021 17:49

There's people there with young kids!

SisterMonicaJoansHabit · 19/07/2021 17:49

An anti lockdown protest on freedom day... Well, each to their own I guess Hmm

But yes, whatever I think or feel about our police force, I couldn't do what they do even when it isn't this hot. I'd be so irritable, I'd probably punch one of the baldy idiots before passing out and puking.

TriCeraBottom · 19/07/2021 18:04

Yes they are amazing putting up with that. Even if you have issues with “the police” (I don’t others might) on an individual level that’s a person standing there in massively heavy riot gear (actually even their normal
Uniform stab vest etc are heavy!) in a heatwave trying to keep order on a bunch of people determined to get up in their faces. I would be sweltered abs on verge of fainting plus come away with a horrendous migraine (can’t take heat) and they don’t even get proper chance for water or to cool off etc.

Wonder how many of the protesters are counting it as their contact visit for the week...

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 19/07/2021 18:13

My DH was a police officer. It was sometimes incredibly tough. Thank you OP.

GreatBigBird · 19/07/2021 18:18

That was my thought! I thought that they were just false reports of a protest, so I googled. I’m shocked. Not only at what I saw, but at how the police are described online.

Covid restrictions 😏🤦‍♀️. Today of all days.

They just looked so calm while abuse was being hurled at them. I admire their inner (and outer) strength. Bad enough, but in this heat I have nothing but respect for them.

norijunior · 19/07/2021 18:25

Yes, thank you to the police. It's an incredibly hard job and in the UK they do it so well.

MissyB1 · 19/07/2021 18:27

As it was such a hot day I would have prescribed freezing cold water cannons to help cool down and calm down the protestors.

Honestly why do we tolerate this kind of crap! I'm all for free speech and peaceful demos etc, but not pointless aggression and trouble causing just for the sake of it.

WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 19/07/2021 18:34

Completely agree op. Bad enough for these fuckwits to be protesting when we were actually in a lockdown but what the fuck is their problem now? Absolute idiots.

Tommika · 19/07/2021 19:34

Call me a cynic, but Tommy Robinson was due in court today for the findings of his libel case.
This has been postponed due to the judge isolating

All those who had planned to congratulate / commiserate Tommy outside the court have to do something to occupy themselves today
