Plates/glasses smell like wet dog after they’ve been washed!

Ever since I can remember our dishes, plates and glasses smell after being washed. If they are dried straight away this isn’t such a problem. The smell is much worse if we’ve eaten eggs.
We always used hand wash but recently we purchased a dishwasher and regardless of the detergent we use, we are still getting this wet dog/pond water whiff. I had hoped a dishwasher would have sorted this.
Does anyone else get this?
I am starting to worry that our water is contaminated in some way.

I was going to say that we've got the same problem, although I think it's just the really hot weather here - even our cold tap is running pretty warm water. It makes everything smell pretty gross, and then settles when it cools down.

Was the dishwasher professionally plumbed in? Did they flash the pipes first, if so? I wonder if there's a blockage or something.

Could be that your pipess have something moldy in them? I get that smell if I've used a teatowel for too long as well, sorry I can't be more help.

Are you sure it’s not the tea towel they are being dried off with? Tea towels stink to me after being used more than once and can harbour all sorts of germs

Also, if you could get a non stinky glass and fill that with your tap water and smell it - does that stink or ok? Should give you some indication if it’s your water

I had this!! Try running a dishwasher cleaner through it

When we hand wash, if we dry with a clean tea towel it doesn’t happen yet if we hand wash and let things air dry it’s there and now with the dishwasher it there after it’s dried in the washer.
I’ll put some cleaner through it.
However, we’ve had it for years with the hand washing.
I wonder if it’s our area as I’ve smelt it round my parents and they live just around the corner from me.
I wonder if I call our water supplier they could come and test the water for us?

Get your dog to wear rubber gloves when he does the washing up?
