Very exciting question about bath seal

We’re replacing the silicon seal on the bath and removing the old silicon is a pig of a job and one I don’t really want to repeat.

I see there is a strip you can buy instead (will try and attach photo). I can’t work out if people really use this though. What do you think? Does anyone have it?

You’re still going to need silicone or some sort of adhesive to attach and seal a strip like that.

You can buy silicone remover, I got some from Brewers. Stanley off what you can then paint it on the rest. Literally wipe it all off ten mins later.

Ah. That’s not gaining anything then.

There’s this, then, which is self adhesive. Doesn’t look as nice though.

Interesting about the remover. We’re using wd40 but it’s a bit crap. Might try the remover. Thanks!

We’ve used that self adhesive strip and it’s rubbish for high splash areas like round the bath.

Also you need to fill your bath with water before you apply the new silicone. This weighs the bath down.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/07/2021 10:32

The flexible strip is crap , don't bother.

I like the first photo but I expect you'd still need silicone behind it but you wouldn't have to be neat Grin

There's a silicone remover tool, we have one... somewhere, you gauge the old stuff out with it.

CluelessWriter · 19/07/2021 10:35

I tried to fit one of the self adhesive ones yesterday...absolute crap!

Yes! That’s why we’re replacing it as the plumber clearly didn’t.
