A-ha, Erasure, Eurythmics, Pet Shop Boys. All big in the 1980s. What is your favourite song or songs from each ?

A-ha: Hunting High And Low
Erasure: Stop!
Eurythmics: Thorn In My Side
Pet Shop Boys: West End Girls

PSB in particular have been inventive and prolific and made many great records but in my opinion, they peaked very early with West End Girls.

Aha - possibly Train of Thought. Or Sun Always Shines
Erasure - Drama
PSB - way too hard to choose! Maybe West End Girls
Eurythmics- never liked them

Sanguinesuzy · 18/07/2021 19:56

Not about the above bands but someone posted a video of bananarama a couple of weeks ago - cruel summer. Hated them at the time but such a good song and video. Normally avoid 80s nostalgia but this just took me right back.
Erasure - respect, small time boy
Eurythmics love is a stranger, psb it's a sin

KittenKong · 18/07/2021 19:57

Can you add the communards too?

AHA - wasn’t really a fan - only really know Take on me
PSB - It’s A Sin
Eurythmics - little bird (or was that solo?)
Erasure - always (or take a chance in me - gotta dance to that one!)
Communards - don’t leave me this way

@TheQueef loved the communards, they had a lead singer with gorgeous red hair ?

KittenKong · 18/07/2021 19:58

Wee squeaky? Jimmy Somerville.

CrowdedMouse · 18/07/2021 20:01

A-Ha: Take on me or Stay on these roads. Don't ask me to choose - it would be like asking me to choose my favourite child.

Eurythmics: Seventeen again.

Erasure: Respect

Communards: For a friend

Geamhradh · 18/07/2021 20:02

A-ha, Take On Me
PSB- it's a Sin (though have soft spot for Go West)
Eurythmics- Thorn in my Side and that one about Saving the world today.
Erasure- Sometimes.

CrowdedMouse · 18/07/2021 20:04

Forgot PSB - loved West End Girls but special mention goes to Song for Guy with Elton "I believe that life isn't everything"

God I miss the 80s - we didn't have pandemics back then!

lorn195 · 18/07/2021 20:04

@KittenKong yes!

Mine

Aha- hunting high and low (though I was torn with Take on me.)
PSB- what have I done to deserve this ? Love Dusty Springfield on this
Eurthymics - there must be an angel
Erasure - A little respect
Communards - don't leave me this way.

Geamhradh · 18/07/2021 20:05

Funny isn't it- almost 40 years later and thinking about those particular songs (and others mentioned) brings back visceral memories- Take On Me is on the second side of a Top 40 homemade tape Grin, It's a Sin was on our girls' university classics tape, Thorn in my Side was me being utterly devastated and heartbroken in early 87.

Not really an Erasure fan tbh.

purrswhileheeats · 18/07/2021 20:05

A-ha - Take on Me - timeless
Pet Shop Boys - What have I Done to Deserve This - Neil's & Dusty's voices were like silk
Erasure - anything from the Crackers International EP or the Abba-esque EP (have both on vinyl)
Eurythmics - favourite is Little Bird, Annie's solo

Geamhradh · 18/07/2021 20:06

Can I throw in that the Waterboys Whole of the Moon is the best pop song ever? (And I'm sure they'd hate that! Grin)

TSSDNCOP · 18/07/2021 20:08

@CrowdedMouse but we had the AIDS crisis, still shudder now about those adverts and having watched Its a Sin I realise I must've walked around with my bloody eyes shut.

TSSDNCOP · 18/07/2021 20:09

@Geamhradh YABU that's starting a whole new thread!!

Oh God yes! Think I might be looking back with rose coloured spectacles and blotted that out. It was terrifying.

TheQueef · 18/07/2021 20:13

Jimmy Somerville singing You are my world, takes me straight back Grin

l2b2 · 18/07/2021 20:18

"I will follow you to the end of time,
I will be the blood flowing through your veins,
I will ride with you to the end of the line,
I will be your everything..." Grin

Aha- Take On Me
Erasure- Sometimes
Eurythmics- not really a fan, but angel
PSB- Suburbia (but WEG, WHIDTDT, and opportunities get honourable mentions)

The first albums I bought were Hunting High and Low, and PSB Please Smile
