How to deal with DH and MIL talking over me

MIL came over yesterday. Yet again, she and DH ended up talking nonstop and I couldn’t get a word in edgewise. I left the room to do some jobs and came back once I heard noises of them clearing up the mugs.

DH said afterwards that I would rude. Apparently I should have just sat there not being able to say anything.

Admittedly my tolerance was low as I was very tired, but can anyone tell me what I should have done?

I come from a small, quiet family. DH’s family on both sides is large and loud so I suppose they’re used to it.

I would’ve done the same

They were extremely rude not to include you in a conversation.

He should apologize

They sound tiresome. Spell it out to your husband that if he is talking over you, you will check out of the conversation.

Thank you @BluebellsGreenbells.

DH just doesn’t seem to get it. He even snapped at me to “be kind” when I pointed out on a walk once that it was happening yet again. Most unlike him.
