Condom fail and anxiety about pregnancy

Looking for advice about a condom fail that happened on Friday evening.

I’ve been dating a new man but it’s still early days. The first time we slept together didn’t go well. The condom came off mid-sex and got stuck inside me. It took ages to get it out but we stopped as soon as we realised and he didn’t ejaculate.

I’m not on the pill. I came off it in April so was only using condoms. My periods came back after stopping the pill and I had one starting 24th May and another on 25th June. This means my next period should be coming around 24/25th July. The condom fail happened on the 16th, roughly a week before I’m due my period.

How worried should I be? A pregnancy would not be good at the moment and I’m feeling anxious as this is such a new relationship. I tried to buy the morning after pill online but it said it could be too late as I would already have ovulated at this time in my cycle. Perhaps it would be worth buying it anyway?

I would grateful for any advice.

I wouldn’t worry too much if he didn’t ejaculate. I mean it’s obviously not impossible but quite unlikely especially if it was a week before your period is due you are likely to have ovulated already.

I would say it’s very unlikely you will become pregnant but look, even if you do, this is not a disaster, you can have a termination. Please stop worrying.

If you are anxious and a pregnancy wouldn't be good. Go to a pharmacy this morning and get yourself the map.

It's free from many places or you can buy it from others.

Don't spend weeks waiting and worrying

You can get the coil fitted as emergency contraception.

Get the map to put your mind at rest, but it’s very unlikely

Mummyratbag · 18/07/2021 11:48

If she has already ovulated the MAP won't work. Get a GP appointment for the coil.

I will contact my GP tomorrow and ask about having an emergency coil fitted. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about people’s bad experiences which has always put me off. I clearly need some sort of backup though and as I don’t get on with the pill, I’ll give it a try.

@conversationdiva your local sexual health clinic can fit a coil (IUD) for emergency contraception www.nhs.uk/service-search/sexual-health/find-a-sexual-health-clinic
