Fatty Liver

I know this isn't in the right place. I just need advice.

I've been having pain on & off in the place of where my Liver is, since last year. It got fobbed off as reflux.
I went back to the doctors recently and she said that she thought it could be gallstones. So sent me for a scan.

I had that last week. The man who scanned me, said everything looked fine. No gallstones, no fatty liver and pancreas all good! Asked me my symptoms, which are, nausea and pain at the top of my tummy & bloated(where my liver is) he said you don't get pain with a fatty liver anyway, so reckons I needs to be referred for an endoscopy to look into my stomach!

The next day. My doctor messages me (I miss her phone call) and said the only thing that showed up was a fatty liver, even though I was told that I didn't have a fatty liver during the scan. So I'm confused. I'm also in a lot of pain and feel sick & bloated.
I guess what I'm asking is, for those who know they have a fatty liver, are these normal symptoms?

Thanks in advance.

Ive just had a liver scan and they wrote things on the report to my gp that she didn't tell me. They do it on purpose so you don't ask them questions they cannot answer. I understand their position but I was pretty upset about it.

If you ring your gp and ask to speak to the secretary you can request a copy of your scan report to collect or via email

Fatty liver doesn't cause pain unless it significantly inflames the liver, which in turn puts pressure on the capsule it's housed in and surrounding structures as the liver itself has no pain receptors.

When I was diagnosed my scanning tech said she seeks it in about a 3rd of the people she scans - clearly endemic in current society.

I was also negative for gallstones, but I suspect I have a "sludgy gallbladder" as I also get pain flare ups in the same place, some of which include pain in waves/spasms, very indicative of gallbladder issues.

My symptom was pain. In 2020 I was getting worried that tit was going to be something more sinister, and logged the pain with my gp. It was naggy pain from time to time, but particularly a very sharp, take-your-breath-away pain when I bent down too far from the waist. Prob caused by my ribs digging into the liver region.

Scan revealed nothing apart from fatty liver. GP left a voice message giving me the results and telling me the only real treatment was to lose weight, slowly and carefully (to avoid ending up with probs with gallstones!)

I lost a stone and the pain went away. Now I've put half of that back on again, it's getting naggy again and a clear sign I need to get back on, and stay on, the diet!
