Insect repellent for trip to Scotland

What insect repellent do I want for kids and adults for a trip to Scotland this summer? We are staying right on Loch Lomond near the water.

Youngest is 3 so need something not completely atomic for his skin but would prefer to just carry one bottle/spray.

We've not had any need to buy any for years now so no clue! Reviews online are so mixed!

Try Smidge. Works for me.

Some people rave about Avon Skin so Soft for the midges.
I have used Smidge too, to good effect.

They have removed the ingredient from SSS that repels the midgies. Smidge all the way

Ben's insect repellent Family Cream
No danger of inhaling the spray-on stuff, you can see where you've applied it.

Excellent thanks!

Smidge and try SSS though I've not found it works on midges

Smidge is great! Something else I've not tried personally, but gets great reviews, is Cubby's Salve, you can find it on Facebook and in some shops in Glasgow!

Start taking vitamin B now it definitely makes a difference for my son & husband.

Smidge works

www.thesmokinmidge.com/ has brilliant reviews - not a skin cream.

Avon skin so soft is good! Stinks even to the human nose though haha. I live in Scotland and anytime we go west that’s what we use. They bit my daughter so badly one year she looked like she had a horrific case of chicken pox. Grandpa had forgotten to spray her before she went to play in the park at his caravan. Never been a mark on her when using the spray though.

Get some midge nets too - Scottish midges laugh at repellent.

Just back from that area. Smidge works pretty well but takes a while to be effective. Put it on BEFORE you need it.

I got some Life Systems spray from Blacks/Millets once. Used it in my car and mis-squirted. It melted the plastic trim in my car. Threw that one away.

You can get midge nets. Normal bug nets won't work as midges are really tiny and get through, as I found out with my tent.

They say eating Marmite works, but I'd rather have the midges.

Skin so soft -do you use it alongside repellent?

I use jungle formula. Says suitable from 36 months on bottle
