Where do your 11+ year old children do their homework?

Or play on computer games/consoles?

We've just had an extension, and are trying to work out how we arrange our downstairs new room/s. We currently have a 6 year old daughter who has the smallest bedroom (through her own choice), so wouldn't be able to have a desk or anything in there.

How old is your child, where do they do homework, where does computer stuff happen?

Thanks.

I have two teens aged almost 17 and almost 14. They do their homework in their bedrooms and use their laptops up there too. They both have desks in their rooms but tend to lie on their beds instead. They don’t have games consoles as they’re not interested so can’t comment on that.

My 7 year old does hers downstairs with us as she still needs our input, usually lying on the living room floor or occasionally at the kitchen table. She doesn’t play on computers so that’s not an issue, she sits on the couch with the ipad occasionally.

11 year-old has the box room, he has a high sleeper bed with a desk underneath,.thags where he does his homework and has his games console. 14 year old has a humongous room he has a desk and s wall mounted TV/games console. The consoles didnt move upstairs until the kids were about 10/11 until then they were in the dining/games room.

Homework in the dining room, without supervision it would never happen!

Dd has never used a desk, much prefers to sit in bed top work, we got her a table tray thing for her bed but she doesn't really use that either

12 yr old has the box room, and a desk that slides out from his cabin bed. Homework done there. Laptop/tablet stuff usually on his bed. Gaming consoles all on living room.

10yr old -kitchen table.

Interesting. I think I vaguely remember working while sat on my bed too, and that was in the days before laptops. My main memory though, is doing most of my homework (age 11 - 15 or so), in front of Cheers, Rosanne and Fraser on a Friday night on the kitchen table.

Child currently playing on her tablet while sat on the window sill. Perhaps we shouldn't plan her a desk space at all.

Dining room table for DD2.
We put a desk in her room when she started secondary, barely got used.
Just finished y11, off to college, have taken desk out. College work will get done in dining room.
She's too lonely upstairs on her own. Sad Grin

My two are 8&10. During lockdown they worked at their desks in their bedrooms, but we welcome to use the dining table instead.

We got the desks as they like drawing etc in their rooms. We don't have a big house though.

Yes, that's what I think mine will be like. We originally had her in the other bedroom which is bigger, but she never went there alone. We used to wake up and find her in the 'spare' room, which is a box room. Managed to push a three quarter double, chest of drawers and bookshelf in there, and in she went. Much better sleep, and sometimes even spends time in there alone.

Dd14 here. Until around a year ago, homework always done in lounge, even though she didn't necessarily need or want help with it. Never used desk in her room. Now always done in her room sitting on floor/bed with laptop. Still never uses desk!
