Insect bites (pictures) - anyone an expert on reactions to these?

DS is 10 and he tends to get big reactions to insect bites. He found a bite yesterday morning on his foot. It got more bumpy and sore over the day, and now today it's purple with blisters. WTF? I'm trying to get hold of OOH GP, but it's nigh on impossible round here. Anyone have any thoughts??

Many thanks in advance

Another picture. They're not great at showing, but there's quite a lot of purpleness!

Not ants or midges, something larger.

The only thing that have ever caused that much of a reaction to my ds is a spider bite. Was he wearing trainers or barefoot?

Possibly a horsefly bite. Looks similar to how I react to those.
Go and see a pharmacist if you are worried.

Thank you so much, @thedevilinablackdress and @Mintjulia - I hadn't thought of spider or housefly... this bite got quite horrid, though it's now finally started to heal (phew). Thanks again.

horse fly (aka clegs)

House flies don't do that!

Ive had a spider bite and there were 2 puncture marks

That looks like a horsefly bite. I dont react but DD and best thing is the put a cold compress on it. And dont rub it or it will spread

I have to treat insect bites promptly as I have diabetes so they can turn nasty. I always put some antihistamine cream on. I think it is safe for children but just check first.

I too thought it could be a spider bite. Has has had anti-histamines? You might be able to get a stronger, steroid cream from a pharmacy, or go to a walk-in centre or minor injuries unit if concerned.
