Friend and I had a Travelodge voucher that was about to expire. Closed our eyes and scrolled the site, until we settled on Clacton for a night out! 🤣

Ahaha yes it's a bit rough and ready these days OP! We used to go when I was a kid and stay in a static caravan and the only thing I much remember is there being a laughing clown thing on the sea front.

Where do you currently live (for context)?

There is a classic, seaside pier with tacky assessments and rides. A wetherspoons facing the pier and sea. A sex shop in a back street. Regular shops in the high street, butchers, wilkos, QD's, poundland and a million charity shops. A walk along the promenade along the sea can be nice, especially at sunset.

No idea about nightlife though. Have you looked or asked on trip advisor?

Do you drive?
If so there'll be stuff to do round and about, if not it's time away and you'll make it fun anyway.
I managed to deal with my near agoraphobia by staying in a travelodge 40 minutes from my house at a shopping center, and I love going now, once a week for 6 weeks.
Local parks, whatever restaurants/takeaways you can find, just stick in into Google and explore.

We call it “Cracktown” round these parts.

Well aware it's less than salubrious; my friend and I fit the bill and are also from less than salubrious areas! Just want a night away, a good laugh and, if it's not too out there, something nice to eat and drink.

I like Clacton! When are you going?

There's a lovely Greek restaurant, there's the pier, it's near to Walton on the Naze and frinton on sea. The beaches at Holland on sea are gorgeous.

If you don't want the night away I'll take it 😉

@Boopeedoop this is what I needed to hear! Just a Saturday night next month, I am a sucker for 2p machines so will definitely be on the pier at some point.

i wouldnt go there for a night out, but the pier and the beach are great fun. I take the kids quite often

That’s actually a really good suggestion. Frinton is cute.

Yeah, head to Frinton instead 😂 Walton has the seaside "charm" but on a smaller/nicer scale. Depends what you are looking for. If it's a fun drinking night then you'll definitely get that in Clacton.

I've had a few weekends with friends in Clacton over the years and it's a good laugh.

We normally go to Walton for the beaches during the day as they're lovely, especially the Naze part. Then we'd head back into Clacton at night for dinner/drinks.
