Confused
Anyone else trying to do an online Sainsbury’s shop and everything is unavailable?

I had a delivery yesterday and a couple of items missing but nothing vital. I haven't had items missing for months so I'm hoping this isn't the start of a trend. I live in a buckets and spades seaside town so lots of camping and caravan sites so shops always under pressure in July and August.

I've broken my ankle so I'm a bit nervous, DH is disabled so we are vulnerable.

I have done a backup order from Iceland to fill the freezer. I really need to get through the next few weeks and once I can walk properly and drive I won't be so worried.

Joy of joy to add to it all I've got a UTI, talked to GP yesterday and he agreed to let me have antibiotics without doing a test and managed to get that delivered.

I suddenly feel old and vulnerable, is this a taste of what is to come?

I haven't been able to get frozen veg from my local large Waitrose for a couple of weeks. Not sure where the issue is.

Snippets of news regarding chronic shortage if hgv drivers and farmers having difficulty harvesting? - both Brexit related

But could be a processing plant problem?

Haven't started looking elsewhere yet or got to the root cause. I might come back if I find out......

@ancientgran Flowers Sorry you're having such a tough time x

@PerciphonePuma

It IS Brexit! There's a well documented shortage of lorry drivers and many stuck at ports. Our local McColls has barely any stock at all as most of their drivers are having various issues. Every single food shop in my town has at least partially empty shelves - even the greengrocers! Luckily for them, it's only the packaged cupboard foods
Not is this case - Sainsburys own website says they are having technical problems with their website. When I tried to change my order last night, NOTHING was available and in the checkout page everything had been removed. Luckily Tesco had delivery slots for today and nearly everything I wanted was available.

I had the same thing, went in to amend and nearly all my basket had gone. Really pissed off as I’m going to have to do it all again. I think I’ll cancel and use Waitrose instead in case Sainsbury’s fuck up my second attempt.

ResilienceWanker · 17/07/2021 08:42

We've just had our Sainsbury's order this morning that I had the "everything is unavailable" issue with last night, and apart from one vegan kebab, substituted with another vegan kebab, everything was fine. (Though I couldn't add the couple of items I'd forgotten the first time, so will need to get those somewhere). So although there may well be stock issues, and food shortages in some places, it wasn't what the OP was having trouble with last night!

Dunlin · 17/07/2021 08:47

Tried again this morning and everything is still unavailable so will have to go to Aldi instead.
I messaged Sainsbury’s last night and got a message back from Andy who tells me they are hard at work in the background to rectify the problem. Although the nature of the problem was unnamed.
I’m going to imagine they’ve had a plague of racoons in the main warehouse as the reason.

It's very frustrating. I've been trying to amend my order since yesterday morning. When I phoned they confirmed that it was an IT fault and that it should be fixed within a couple of hours. Nearly 24 hours later and it's still the same. I'm going going to give it until lunchtime (my shop is due to be delivered tomorrow) and then cancel as I no longer need the stuff that was on the original order.

Thank you. It will get better I'm sure, just a bit of a shock to the system to realise you do need help.

SusieSusieSoo · 17/07/2021 11:03

My Tesco order last night was absolutely fine. Two subs - 2x500g mince instead of 1 750g mince. 12 stamps instead of 6 (same price).

Sounds like a Sainsbury's issue not a shortage of actual food

CovidKingfisher · 17/07/2021 11:21

Same.
Tesco order yesterday and everything fine, only the bread was subbed.

Definitely a Sainsbury's technical problem nothing to do with Brexit Grin

A lot of the HGV driver shortage is down to the introduction of IR35 which is a tax rule that stops the tax advantages of "disguised" workers such as lorry drivers using limited companies to get tax/NIC reductions and makes them be paid on payroll instead (paying tax, nic etc like other workers). The drivers end up with less take home pay, and the haulage firms won't pay them higher rates to compensate, so drivers are less likely to work extra shifts/hard shifts as they don't get to "take home" as much money anymore.

GreenClock · 18/07/2021 10:28

Just received a Sainsbury delivery with one third of the items missing. I can’t go to a shop (DC has covid). Not impressed with paying £4 delivery for 11 items tbh, one of which was a loaf of sliced bread with tomorrow’s date as the BB.

planetexpressship · 18/07/2021 10:50

a million subs today Angry

Phone customer services and they'll refund the short dated loaf and delivery charge.

Actually there's very little in it for the workers - by the time you take sick pay and holiday pay into account. The main beneficiaries are the companies who insisted that self employed people set up limited companies or they wouldn't give them work.
PattyPan · 18/07/2021 15:38

I was able to amend mine ok in the end and got most of my stuff in my delivery this morning, just had a couple of subs - non organic grapes instead of organic, 2 pints milk instead of 1, chipolatas instead of sausages. Suspect the latter is bbq related although we bbq’d them in the end anyway, carefully so they didn’t fall in the gaps Grin

Kazzyhoward · 18/07/2021 15:39

@Clymene Not now, no. That's because of recent tax changes. Go back a decade or two and the difference was massive. The biggest change has been the personal tax on dividends, which is fairly recent. Back in the noughties, there was a lower 10% corporation tax rate and even a £10k per year zero tax rate for limited companies. Average earners could easily save £2.5k to £5k per year by operating via a limited company.
