Milk allergy

Hi!

Not sure where to post this really but need some advice.

My daughter is on nutramigen as she had mucus and small blood dots in her poo ( no other symptoms) and this has stopped after being on the formula for 3 weeks but I now feel she has horrible reflux and seems worse since stopping breast feeding and being on this formula.
Docs but her on gaviscon but then she wouldn't drink the milk so I stopped and they said to try and manage it other ways.

Anyway reading online I have seen nannycare goats milk is highly recommended so was wondering has anyone else put their babies on this with a milk allergy and reflux and how did it go?

I will talk to my gp but would like to see if anyone else has made this change.

Thanks!

Xx

Hi!

Me. DS2 is nearly 6 months. We have him on SMA lactose free, tried all sorts for him and this one seemed to work the best. His reflux is horrendous, but he's teething and I've been told that it doesn't help.
We've weaned him now (not sure how old your LO is sorry??? I'm assuming still very young). But weaning seems to have at least helped keep the milk down and I can hide it in porridge etc.
He is also on omeprazol? (sorry for the spelling). Unfortunately his reflux is very severe at the moment and we can't put him down to sleep he has to sleep upright or he'll just projectile vomit everywhere so DH and I tag team at night at the moment.
DS1 though grew out of his reflux at about 6months after weaning.
Depending on the severity of the reflux you can do lots of things like elevating the cot for sleeping. Make sure you wind regularly (we have to after every oz or 2).

Goat's milk formula isn't recommended for babies with cow's milk allergies and intolerances because the proteins in both (which is what they tend to be allergic to) are very similar.

The proteins in nutramigen are broken down but it might still be enough to cause issues - it might be worth asking to switch to neocate formula and seeing if that helps. Its amino-acid based and doesn't have any protein chains.

You made need something like omeprazole as well.

I have raised the crib, wind her as much as I can i guess I just need to just wait it out till I can wean her xx

Oh ok thank you!

If she is also allergic to soya she will need something like neocate.

SlB09 · 17/07/2021 00:11

Second neocate. My LO couldn't have nutrimigen, allergic to cows milk protein and soya, subsequent reflux so hospital specialists switched to neocate instead.
Also to echo pp, goats milk has similar proteins so I wouldn't bother to be honest. If all else fails and he's in pain then omeprazole tends to work really well.

My DD had very similar at that age, very bad reflux etc. when she had dairy or soy. She has an intolerance not a type 1 allergy. Consultant gave her neocate and it all cleared up pretty much immediately. I think they are loathe to prescribe it in primary care as it is incredibly expensive. Looking at the ingredients in Nutrimigen it’s not actually dairy/soy free, which explains why it’s not really made a difference! Persevere politely but firmly.

Thank you everyone. Think il call Monday and discuss with gp on changing the milk again.

Im just worried she will hate it even more then nutramigen

Just an update they put her on pepti 1 and the first day or so she was fine, all symptoms went away then suddenly its like she has a constant tummy ache and winding her now it's even harder, she also is sleeping less at night now and getting her down it's harder.
Still no appointment with the ped 😭

I just don't know what to do for the best.
