How the fuck do you function as a normal person and leave the house?

I'm not doing great with it tbh.

Which part? Spending 3 hours on the toilet?

FrogWaa · 16/07/2021 13:43

More the stress about leaving the house and worrying. It has got SO MUCH worse since lock down. I'm sure it causes many of the symptoms.

I take lexapro for anxiety/ocd. IBS I haven't got figured out. It definitely makes things difficult.

Have you had any treatment for your OCD? Therapy, self-help books? Mindfulness meditations? Acceptance Commitment Therapy is a good one, as is CBT?

I also have a shit stomach but not diagnosed IBS, I try and follow a good diet and avoid trigger foods.

But they're both shit and I empathise with you, but definitely see if you can focus on some treatment so that you can at least better manage your OCD symptoms and reduce their impact on your day to day life.

I started CBT but it all kind of went tits up for other reasons, then a pandemic happened Hmm. I need to look into it again

Could you tell me about it please? I've never medicated the oCd, does it make you feel weird, how does it work? Do you have intrusive thoughts does it help with that?

No it doesn't make me feel weird. Lexapro makes you feel very relaxed, very 'ah it'll be alright' about everything. I went from horrendous panic attacks and intrusive thoughts to feeling normal. Thoughts still pop into my head but I can switch them off and basically ignore them.

I still get stressed sometimes of course, but it has changed my life.
