Am I too old?

I set up my own fitness business which has been going well

I'm 45 and suddenly I've had a crisis of confidence after feeling very confident for so long.

I advertise on social media but I've had a sudden feeling of paranoia that people are thinking how sad that a middle aged woman is trying to influence on social media. I worry that I'm too old for this shit and I should just go back to being a sahm.

Not sure why I suddenly feel like this. Of course my role is to be positive and encourage others to keep fit and well so I hide it.

Do you have customers? Are you making money? Is it by your own standards a success, or heading that way?

If the answer to any of those is yeah, what does your age have to do with it?

It’s going well, you’ve said so yourself!

Well done you for getting it off the ground, sounds like you’re doing a great job Smile

Do you think 45 year olds are too old to care about fitness?

Social media is bollocks, it can be useful but it also chisels away at your confidence. Maybe try a more systematic approach to it, see it as a tool and plan a schedule of posts so you don't have to constantly dig into yourself for content when you're having an off day. It's just a shop window.

At 45 you might not get teens following you, but who cares? If there's a market for what you do then that's all that matters. My guess is word of mouth will mean more than SM for many of your customers. Can you do a few questionnaires or engage with your audience to find out what they get from you?

Yes I have customers and yes I'm making money!

As I said I'm not sure why my age suddenly fes relevant. Perhaps it's hormones Confused

Ps most people feel like shit right now, you're not alone. The world's in a state!

You're never too old to care about fitness!

I'm just feeling odd right now. Perhaps current affairs have finally got to me

I say this with kindness... You are being bloody ridiculous. Your age is a massive advantage, so exploit it. People our age, as well as younger and older, most often do not want to take advice from a 20 year old. Congrats on your success and DON'T STOP.

Go for it! One of my friends set up a running business just before turning 50. Age shouldn't be a barrier

Look up Laura Jones fitness / Fearless on social media. She's not quite your age but almost. Five years ago she was a non-runner, heavily overweight about three babies. Now she runs ultra marathons and she's amazing. If she can do it, so can you.
