What time do you have a drink on an evening?

If you are having an alcoholic drink, what time do you have it? Is there a time that's too early? I'm sat here thinking I fancy a drink tonight, both kids are asleep but it feels too early at 7pm. Maybe it depends what the drink is?
My parents will never drink before 9pm. (Unless it's a bottle of lager on a hot summers day, even then it's only the 1)
My grandparents have a drink every night from about 7pm, and like to have a little baileys in an afternoon 😂 they're 87 though so they can do what they want! But my parents make lighthearted comments about them drinking so early.

So, what do you reckon. I fancy a small gin and lemonade, but I think it's going to have to be after 8 otherwise it feels "too early " Gin

I don't drink in the week but I usually pour one on a Friday around 5pm when I start cooking dinner. I go to bed between 9 and 10 so that's when I'd be finishing, not starting!

TheDevils · 15/07/2021 19:41

There are no rules in our house! If you fancy a drink then have one!

ThirdElephant · 15/07/2021 19:42

I don't think it really matters tbh.

I often get a thirst when Pointless comes on.

I'm an early to bed person too though, so it's probably someone else's 7pm

Beachbabe1 · 15/07/2021 19:45

I've never heard of a 'too early to drink rule!' 8pm would be far too late for me to start drinking as I go to bed between 9pm and 10pm! On a weekend I might have a few at 4ish whilst cooking dinner! Have you never had day drinks at a bbq? Or a drink with lunch in the pub?

Chosennone · 15/07/2021 19:46

On sunny days all best are off. We're self isolating so had a drink in the garden at 6pm. Usually don't drink Mon-Thurs but I still think 6pm ish as we are cooking is fine.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 15/07/2021 19:46

I don't drink really but if it's a sunny afternoon and I'm in the garden and fancy one then I'll have something like some strawberry wine and lemonade anytime from midday onwards.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/07/2021 19:46

Cocktail hour starts somewhere between five and six usually. Depending on what's for supper and how much hands-on cooking is involved, really

BillyRaywasapreachersson · 15/07/2021 19:47

If I'm going to drink something alcoholic at home, I would fancy one about 5/6 ish. For me, if I haven't had one by 7, I wouldn't bother at all.

Isn’t there a saying that the sun’s over the yardarm somewhere in the world?

ParkheadParadise · 15/07/2021 19:50

Usually about 8

Today sitting in the garden DH brought me out a very large glass of wine and a bowl of hula hoops 😂 at 2pm.
He refilled it @ 2.45 😄😄

1FootInTheRave · 15/07/2021 19:52

About 4pm if an evening at home.

7ish if heading out.

Could be 2pm ish if at a christening etc.

feellikeanalien · 15/07/2021 19:55

My ex FIL used to head to the drinks cabinet as soon as the clock struck 6!

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 15/07/2021 19:58

Probably after eight but varies depending mood and situation. Even 8 am before back in the day post university finals May Ball survivors breakfast days when it was considered best hangover curve is to have a Buck’s Fizz champagne breakfast and stay semi intoxicated. Those were the days!

SpacePug · 15/07/2021 19:58

I love these answers! Just made my drink as clearly it's not too early Gin

Glass of wine about 5 while making dinner on a Friday, maybe on a Saturday too. I couldn't be bothered by 8pm

SpacePug · 15/07/2021 19:59

I usually a drink a couple of times a week. Last one was Sunday for football so I'm fancying one tonight and then probably again on Saturday night

I think any time from 5pm is usual for most people.

My neighbours crack a bottle of red open on Friday when they're home at about 3:30/4pm.

I sometimes have a gin at about 5. If I'm having wine, I'll wait until about 7. If I waited until 8, I'd probably not bother and just go to bed Grin

ThreeKneeRepeater · 15/07/2021 20:02

Never ever before 6 pm.

InFiveMins · 15/07/2021 20:02

6pm. Once it hits 6pm I feel it's acceptable to be drinking.

On a Sunday, drinking time starts at 5pm. Don't ask me why, it's just how it is 🤷🏼‍♀️

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 15/07/2021 20:03

Hopefully in a minute! Just waiting for Dd to drop off... I couldn't wait until 9pm, that's practically bedtime!! (thanks for 5:30am wake up time, ds... 🙄)

Mustardbay · 15/07/2021 20:05

6ish usually, I go to bed about 9 so there'd be no point much after 8!

FinallyHere · 15/07/2021 20:24

If we are going to have a drink, it's usually 6pm, or 6.30 while cooking.

Lunchtime drinking finishes next off for the day.

Budgetating · 15/07/2021 20:27

6-630 with the evening meal if I'm going to have one.
Occasionally at lunchtime on a weekend or in the holidays if we're not planning on going out.
