If your child has been diagnosed with ASD/autism/developmental delays - did you have pre-eclampsia during that pregnancy?

Just the above really. I have stumbled across a few studies which have drawn minor links between the 2 (also ADHD) and so I’m curious to see if anyone can relate?

I had PE with my first and whilst he doesn’t have autistic traits, he is slightly delayed developmentally (speaking, mostly, physically, definitely on time) and he shows signs of ADHD. Has done since very young.

Currently pregnant with number two and because of previous pregnancy, they’re obviously on high alert for PE again

I had pre eclampsia with my 1st and she does have adhd and waiting for ndas tests. No pre eclampsia in other pregnancys but ds is showing signs of autism. It's rife in my family my two brother have it. Possible my dad had it too. I would think its genetic rather than pre eclampsia.

@Sickoffamilydrama that’s amazing that a geneticist was able to trace back to vikings through your DH genes! I find it fascinating.
I think we will be waiting a while as she said to me that some of the panels (depending on what they decide to do) can take a year to run 🤯 so they will just do their thing in the background whilst we carry on with everyday life and maybe one day I’ll get a random update! 😅

No I didn’t, but we lived and worked somewhere that was highly polluted by industry (we were there to modernise it) and I suspect this has contributed to my D.C. issues (brain malformation, seizure disorder, learning delays and adhd ☹️). I’ll never know for sure of course, they refused to release the environmental data they were measuring.

His neurologist is going to do genetic testing at his next appointment, that will be interesting

No PE either pregnancy.
Dd, uncomplicated birth, no asd
Ds, horrendous birth and admission to neonatal, asd & dyspraxia diagnosed at 2.5years.

Mother mildly asd
Father severely dyslexic

No

Kanaloa · 16/07/2021 22:33

I didn’t. Having gone through ds’s diagnosis and everything with him though, he shares many traits with me and with my dad. I’ve often thought if my dad was young now he would have been diagnosed with autism and given help to manage better socially.

Kanaloa · 16/07/2021 22:35

I did have a difficult birth with ds though but I don’t think that’s connected with his autism just bad luck.

My DS has ADHD and it's in his birth family. AFAIK no PE. It is, as others have said, genetic.

onthinice · 16/07/2021 22:40

No

Lakeshore6 · 16/07/2021 23:07

Brain bleed from prematurity. Very likely cause.

lillylemons · 16/07/2021 23:27

no problems during my pregnancies they were both straightforward.
dd has Autism and ADHD
ds has Autism and global development delay

StillMedusa · 17/07/2021 00:39

Nope
Two autistic children of four.. one high functioning, one not so much.
Normal births. No 2 had the scary birth (meconium aspiration) and he's as un autistic as they come!

Definitely genetic in our case...loads of us on the spectrum!
