If your child has been diagnosed with ASD/autism/developmental delays - did you have pre-eclampsia during that pregnancy?

Just the above really. I have stumbled across a few studies which have drawn minor links between the 2 (also ADHD) and so I’m curious to see if anyone can relate?

I had PE with my first and whilst he doesn’t have autistic traits, he is slightly delayed developmentally (speaking, mostly, physically, definitely on time) and he shows signs of ADHD. Has done since very young.

Currently pregnant with number two and because of previous pregnancy, they’re obviously on high alert for PE again

I had PE, but DS was not Autistic, but he is dyslexic, but the so is dh, do genetic.
My Dm had PE with me and im not autistic either

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 15/07/2021 19:41

Nor pre eclampsia but some problems with my placenta and very low birth weight.
He's currently being assessed for ADHD and ASD
I've heard there might be a link but I don't think anyone knows for sure.

Pregnancy 1 PE - DS neurotypical
Pregnancy 2 twins - DD1 and DD2 neither neurotypical

DD1 - they believe she’s a de novo unfortunate combination of genes
DD2 - it’s clearly genetic, as she has the same as DH!

Yes. I also had intrauterine growth restriction (IIUGR) which is known to be associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. And IUGR and PE are commonly linked. My 2 others kids - no PE, no IUGR, no neuro issues.

LER83 · 15/07/2021 19:57

3 dc, 2 with autism, 1 nt, no PE in any pregnancy.

Nope

HarrisMcCoo · 15/07/2021 20:15

No. I had a severe placental abruption.

CandyCaneLane0 · 15/07/2021 20:15

No

BlatantlyNameChanged · 15/07/2021 20:23

No PE.

Two autistic DC, problem free pregnancies with each, DH and I were relatively young (or at least not ancient) as we were both 27 when we had one and 31 when we had the other.

Chickpea22 · 15/07/2021 20:24

No

I don’t think autism is “genetic” in the way implied by pp, though some autistics may have inherited genes from parents who are also autistic.
I didn’t have PE in the pregnancy that resulted in my autistic child.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/07/2021 20:51

I have two with ADHD.

I had preeclampsia during one pregnancy but not the other.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 15/07/2021 20:52

No. Blood pressure was fine until labour when it went sky-high and they had to lower it with an epidural.

234Pepperplant · 15/07/2021 20:55

No. With hindsight, neurodiversity, although never diagnosed, ran in the family.

imaginethemdragons · 15/07/2021 20:59

Pre eclampsia with both.
One who has definite ADHD traits but not formally diagnosed. The other is absolutely fine, no traits whatsoever.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/07/2021 21:24

No, neither I, nor my Dsis, or DGM, or DGGM had difficult pregnancies. Apart from DSis we all had sth like home births.

gamerchick · 15/07/2021 21:26

No. Did have polyhydramnios though.

ASD is genetic, usually a close family member is undiagnosed.

OrangeBananaFish · 15/07/2021 21:30

No. DS 16YO is Autistic

Daisychainsandglitter · 15/07/2021 21:42

No- I strongly suspect it's genetic.

elsaesmeralda · 15/07/2021 22:04

No. Pregnancy was fine, had a couple of reduced movements episodes and the babies heart rate dropped during labour but otherwise fine

daisycottage · 15/07/2021 22:05

No and I'm autistic and my mother didn't have PE with me.

3womeninaboat · 15/07/2021 22:15

Any condition can be both genetic and triggered or exacerbated by what happens in utero, though. It’s very plausible that in a decade or two potential ASD will be identified in the second trimester by fetal mri.

ratspeaker · 15/07/2021 22:25

No
3 dyslexic
1 ASD and ADHD

we've since found out there are dyslexics in both DH and I families
and ASD
