I got the wrong bus

Ended up god knows where in the middle of Coventry somewhere.

I'm a complete dingbat and now having to get an Uber home. That'll teach me not to be glued to my phone.

Please tell me not the only bus challenged person

I'm useless at busses. I can only really cope with busses that do linear routes that don't change throughout the day. I have to have a reasonably good grasp of the geography though Google maps on my smartphone has helped with that.

Mydogisagentleman · 15/07/2021 17:23

You are not alone.
I did it the first and only time I used a bus here.
I misread the destination, was reading the local paper on the bus and did not realise we were heading for Wisbech rather than my area.
Buses are awful around here and I had an hours wait to get back to the bus station, then half an hour for my bus
Buggerthe environment, I drive everywhere now

I've come across several people who are directionally or geographically challenged, and several who are fearful of using buses. You also get the paranoia about missing a stop and people ringing the bell about 1 second after it leaves the stop, or three people who want to get off somewhere each ringing the bell.

I hate buses except here in Cornwall where there's only one or in London when Citymapper babysit me!

FindingMeno · 15/07/2021 18:57

When it's dark I'm in a perpetual state of panic that I'll miss my stop, and I've travelled the route for years.

PiccalilliChilli · 15/07/2021 19:06

Getting a bus is very normal where I am, but my brother who lives in the sticks and relies on his car gets a panic on if I say, "Just get the 36 to...". He gives up and uses Uber. Wuss.

I am hopeless in a car. No spatial awareness. My mind drifts. I prefer someone else to drive me whilst I read a book. Horses for courses.

If in doubt, ask the driver.

When we first moved ds fell asleep on the bus from college. Didn't have a clue where he was - he didn't ask the driver, just got off.. We were on Google maps trying to find streets he was mentioning!! He did it 3 nights in a row!! Never got off the same stop twice. What a plank!!

I'm directionally challenged! I'm fine with buses in areas I know, but the one time I had to take a bus in an unfamiliar place (long-distance train plus bus at the end) I ended up printing out a map of the area, marking the bus route and following along - and still being freaked out that I might end up in completely the wrong place.

If it's only a few miles I'd rather walk than take an unknown bus - at least I can take my time figuring the route out that way.

I remember getting a bus home once - late at night and very dark, the bus was packed, and it was raining and all the windows had completely steamed up. If you'd planned to rely on looking out the window for landmarks or road signs, you'd have had no chance. My stop was near the end of a very long road, but I actually got off at the stop after - I had no idea how far along the road we were due to stopping and starting in traffic, but I could tell when we turned left at the end of it! It was a weird experience.

Im not usually that bad but for some reason today, I went into a panic. When I got home and checked the route, it was a circular, so I could've stayed on it. 🤦🏽‍♀️

It's just a different bus to the one I get daily.

This is why I liked the buses in Sunderland - they had screens to show which stop was next.

proudwomansexmatters · 15/07/2021 20:08

😂 @Babysharkdoodoodood. That really made me laugh 😂

I haven't got on a bus but I have driven 50 miles in the wrong direction because I wasn't concentrating on where I was going 😂. I was very late for my appointment

Oldraver · 15/07/2021 20:37

I did this just before Christmas. There is a once in a few hours bus that's stops where mine does (edge of town just before country) and had a vet similar number. Never seen this one before and it was very late, driver took my ticket and said nothing

So when it went past my turn thought ooh it must be the direct bus no worries will carry on to my town from there. But it bypassed the terminus town do at that point I asked the driver where he was going and he said Cheltenham eventually

It's next stop was a town 13 miles from mine, it was bloody December lashing down with rain and my phone was almost out. Luckily got OH to come and fetch me

I wondered why it was a 'posh' bus with comfy leather seats. I'd managed to get to 55 without getting on the wrong bus
