If I like Ken Bruce on Radio 2, who else will I like?

I’ve always listened to Radio 1 but I might have to finally admit I’m getting old (in my 40’s) as I’ve finally progressed to Radio 2! I like Ken Bruce, I don’t like the other regular daytime presenters that I’ve tried, but is there anyone else I might like? I like Ken’s soothing Scottish tones, there’s not too much chat and there’s a good mix of music. Any other less regular presenters I might like or other station segments?

Honestly, Ken is the best and the only one I listen to now.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 15/07/2021 15:20

Ken Bruce is the king of broadcasting. No one else comes close.

I also love Simon Mayo, but the BBC got rid of him and he’s now on Greatest Hits Radio. He’s still awesome but there are adverts and he’s more chatty than Ken.

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/07/2021 15:40

Radio 2 have perfected the art of changing the wrong presenters. Sara Cox is OK, she's just on the wrong time of day for me. I also miss Simon Mayo, he was perfect for a post-work change of mind.

If you want soothing Scottish tones - Radio Scotland!
I like the Afternoon Show with Janice Forsyth - arts reviews and interviews interspersed with music. Also hosted by Grant Stott and Nicola Meighan, but Janice is my preferred presenter.

LubaLuca · 15/07/2021 15:46

I'd say Shaun Keaveny on 6 Music, but he recently announced he was leaving and I don't know where he's going. He's not as nice to listen to as Ken to be honest, but he does play a better mix of music.

Normandy144 · 15/07/2021 15:50

In all honesty Ken is the king, he is pure gold. I like Sara Cox too but don't always listen as I don't really commute any more. Liza Tarbuck is a bit quirky but I find her amusing. She is on Saturday evenings. I also like Rylan Clark Neal when he returns to his Saturday afternoon slot. Claudia Winkleman is also great on the Saturday morning slot.

TheWeeDonkey · 15/07/2021 15:56

I don't know why but I preferred Sara Cox when she would cover the morning show. She's okay on drive time but I don't commute as much now.

MrsJackPearson · 15/07/2021 15:58

I love that you all love Ken too! I mostly listen via BBC Sounds so I can try any show doesn’t matter what time/day, Will try BBC Scotland and I love Liza Tarbuck so I’ll def give her show a try. I think I’ve tried Rylan and Claudia but I’ll give them another try. Thanks all and keep the suggestions coming!

Oh and I often listen to Greatest Hits radio in the car and agree Simon Mayo is still good, might have to see if it’s available online/via podcast

Ken Bruce is the best!
I’m sure you’d like Johnnie Walker too. He has a soothing relaxing voice and plays good music. Only thing is he’s on on a Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Maybe listen on catch up, his Sunday show is good.

TheAwfuITruth · 15/07/2021 16:42

I love Ken Bruce, I also like Sara Cox, Johnnie Walker, and I don't mind a bit of Michael Ball and Elaine Paige on a Sunday either

Can't bear Steve Wright or Jeremy Vine 'today we discuss...bedroom windows, should they be open or closed at night?'

WhatILoved · 15/07/2021 16:44

No music but Eddie mair on lbc has nice soothing tones

PuppyMonkey · 15/07/2021 16:51

There is simply nothing to match Ken imho.

I like Pick of the Pops on a Saturday. And Tony Blackburn of course.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 15/07/2021 16:55

Radio London, Robert Elms is a God of the Airways. Ditto Vanessa Feltz on the same stations breakfast show.

fruitpastille · 15/07/2021 17:01

I like Dermot O'Leary on Saturday morning on radio 2.

LubaLuca · 15/07/2021 17:11

@fruitpastille

I like Dermot O'Leary on Saturday morning on radio 2.
But not the 'guess the celebrity voice' bit, right? Nobody could think that was good radio, the terminally boring people they get on and encourage to prattle on about their mundane existence - "I walked the dog, Hamish, he's a naughty terrier, then we had bacon and eggs for breakfast. I'll be seeing my wonderful, wonderful sister Claire later for coffee and a good old catch-up, and then we're seeing our best friends from round the corner Gareth and Elaine later for tapas in our favourite restaurant. Is it Jeff Capes, Dermot?'
CormoranStrike · 15/07/2021 20:31

I like Jason Manford and Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio.

MargaretHooper · 15/07/2021 22:10

Radio Scotland again - Dougie Vipond is sitting in for Bryan Burnett and has dulcet Scottish tones. I think he's the nearest we have who could grow into a successor for the mighty Ken.

overthethamesfromyou · 15/07/2021 22:19

Will Young is doing Sara Cox's show this week and he's getting it just right, I think. Such a nice voice

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 15/07/2021 22:28

I was introduced to Ken after starting in an office where they stopped for popmaster. I also listen to Sara Cox on the drive home from work now I'm back in the office.

GoddamReylos · 15/07/2021 22:34

I don’t have a suggestion but I just wanted to say my life revolves around Popmaster. I got 24 recently and I’ve told everyone I know. Nobody cares but I bet you guys will Grin

RedRec · 15/07/2021 22:49

Another vote for Dermot O'Leary on a Saturday morning on Radio 2. And unlike a pp, I absolutely love the 'mystery voice' section!

fruitpastille · 15/07/2021 23:09

I quite like the mystery voice bit. I admire how Dermot seems genuinely interested in them (he's probably not really) and charms them with his dulcet tones Grin

MeanMrMustardSeed · 15/07/2021 23:27

Congratulations! I am very impressed!!

MeanMrMustardSeed · 15/07/2021 23:27

Sorry ^ that was to @GoddamReylos
