Is there any way to join FB anonymously?

I'm a teacher and I really want to join in some discussion groups that I'm in on FB, but I don't want it connected to my personal account.

I made another email address and registered an account for that, but I must have looked suspicious because it's asking for photo ID, which I obviously don't have.

They have cracked down on people using fake names recently. A friend of mine created a new Facebook account for similar reasons but the new account ended up getting banned because she couldn't prove it was really her name.

Could you just use a fake name?

PeonyTime · 14/07/2021 20:24

Could you use a maiden name? Or first and middle name? I've seen both with teaching friends.

I used a fake name ages ago and never had to prove that was my real name.

Sign up with your real name then change it once your account is created through the settings option.

I'm on FB anonymously for exactly the same reason. I have made up a silly name and locked down every privacy setting possible. I used my own email address but made it so no-one could search for me with that. I didn't need a photo. I did this about 6 months ago. I never comment on anything, i just like being able to see what is happening on our local area page.

Oh genius! Thank you.

Could you register with your name but in a different language? I live in Ireland and a few friends have their names as the Gaelic version of their name. If asked, their ID is in their name, just in a different language, which is allowed apparently.

Cooldryplace · 14/07/2021 20:32

My teacher friends seem to use a nickname. E.g Joe Bloggs calls her self Jay Bee (not real names).

Or other use their first and middle names, no surname, but I don't know how you'd get round the ID thing.

AreWelcome · 14/07/2021 20:33

Most teachers use nicknames so pupils/parents can't find them, I want to avoid my colleagues so I can ask for advice on some pages.

I think the name change will work.

All my teacher friends have fake names on fb

TheNameTheWebsiteForgot · 14/07/2021 20:44

Yep fake name on FB (social worker). Same reason.

DownWhichOfLate · 15/07/2021 08:50

If you sign up with your actual name then change it to i.e just your first and middle names you can still be found using your full name. I’m not technical to know why but presume the search engine takes in to account previous names. Perhaps use your maiden name, if that is different to your current surname, when signing up, then change it.

Palavah · 15/07/2021 08:54

Change your privacy settings so you cant be found in searches and none of your profile is visible to non-friends, be very selective about who you add and use an ambiguous profile photo.

Youdiditanyway · 15/07/2021 09:48

I’ve got one with a fake name and no photo or identifying details at all. I just use it to find local activities and keep up to date with the school.

blobby10 · 15/07/2021 09:59

My teacher friends and those who work in sensitive areas just changed their names to first and middle names, just excluded their surnames. They do include photos though
