Anyone know about uniforms and badges for Guiding?

Also posted on extra-curricular activities.

Do they have to have the polos/tshirts or can they just wear the hoodie and trousers? Are the rules dependent on the unit/leaders?

Do the badges from the previous section go on the new sections uniform too or not?

Sorry I never did guiding so don’t know. My 7 year old is just about to move up to Brownies and I’ve never had the chance to ask these questions due to the way it’s been run because of covid (she didn’t get a space at Rainbows until just before her 6th birthday so only been there a year – she borrowed a uniform for Rainbows as she was there so little time so I never put the badges properly on the uniform).

DD does not like the tshirts at all, she's spent most of rainbows in a borrowed hoodie as they had no tshirts to lend so wondering if she can carry that on with Brownies?

@InflagranteDelicto

That's quite a cool idea (borrowing for my unit)

My children, now teens, each have 2m of fleece fabric chosen in the fabric shop. That said, it becomes quite personalised, especially if they pick up badges on holiday too. RNLI shops are great!

DD wants the guides blanket not the Rainbows or Brownies one, will that be ok or should I wait until she's in that section to get it?

Move the badges from earlier sections onto her camp blanket.

Will do, Brown Owl says to keep the 1st year one and her promise badge plus the units badge to put on her Brownies uniform but everything else isn't needed.

Do I take it that they don't do a new promise at the next section?

We ask the girls to have the shirt as if we go and do activities in the summer she won't want a hoddie on and then nothing identifies her as a Brownie. It is for practical reasons!

@Inamuddleaboutthis she will take a promise for each section Smile

Brown Owl has already said to send her in whatevers she's comfortable in, I'm sure we can find a work around for events.

Fair enough, another one to record then as I'll miss it through my tears of pride Smile

That's fine. Seriously, it's quite relaxed.

She'll make a new promise. Talk to Brown Owl in advance if you want to record it, we have to be really careful with images of the girls as some can't be photographed. She'll also have a different promise badge, Brownies have a yellow one. Remember she does the interest badges (the diamond ones with pictures) at home, she'll need one of each colour for Gold.

I've got Brown Owls email and emailed her about the uniform saying she has sensory issues and also about another issue, the Rainbows leader is the district commissioner but I wanted to let Brown Owl know this too as it kind of effects them (not finanical related).

I am very impressed with how inclusive they are

I also came on to say the long sleeved top - IMO it’s softer and more comfortable (and more attractive) than the brown and yellow T-shirt (it’s a slightly softer yellow with blue stripy sleeves, looks much nicer).

DD who went up to brownies recently hated the leggings, hoodie and trousers. She does, however, like the skort, which is lighter and much more comfortable. She will wear the long sleeved top and skort, thank goodness, and I think I might get her some brown tights for winter to go under the skort rather than try to persuade her to have the trouser options which she is dead set against! (She has shirt legs and often finds trousers uncomfy).

Oh and her pack are relaxed about the sewing of badges, they suggested a sash if we wanted to but aren’t bothered if not.
