Do you stop eating even if you aren't full

Because '1 is plenty'?

Reading the chicken burger thread, and the many others about what amount of food is acceptable, I often see people saying 1 is plenty, x calories is enough as I'm small, etc etc etc. What if you aren't full?

Do people only eat the recommended amount, or amount perceived to not be greedy, even if still hungry?

I don't see the opposite of hungry as "full" to be honest.

What do you understand "full" to be? Eat until you could eat no more? Satiety?

Once I've eaten (say) a fried egg, a couple of rashers of bacon and a handful of chips which is my usual serving then I'm no longer hungry, but if I fancied eating some more chips because they taste nice, or another bit of bacon because it tastes nice then I might do.

If I only ate until I wasn't hungry anymore then I'd eat a lot less.

I eat my main meal until I'm full. But I don't take that much food to feel full. I don't snack and I don't eat after my last meal of the day so feeling satiated at meals is important.

Full now is when I'm nicely full and not hungry anymore but not stuffed.

Previously, I'd have over eaten because I wanted it.

I dont stop when im full if its really tasty. Otherwise ill eat until I feel full.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 14/07/2021 16:45

I quite often stop before I'm full, and wait a bit. If after half an hour and a glass of water later I'm still hungry, I'll eat more, but I'm usually not, it just takes my stomach a little while to realise I've had enough.

Before I did this I'd eat till I was full, then later on realise I'd actually overeaten and be uncomfortable.

spiderlight · 14/07/2021 16:50

I realised quite recently that I quite often just kept eating because I had developed the habit of leaving the best bits until last. Now I eat the best bits first, it's much easier to stop before I'm stuffed.

Kinsters · 14/07/2021 16:52

If I'm not loving what I'm eating I'll stop when I'm bored of eating it or when I'm no longer hungry.

If I'm eating something really nice I'll eat until I'm full. I don't often go for seconds though unless I still feel hungry after the first helping. That's why I can't buy family size chocolate bars cause I'll eat the whole thing...

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/07/2021 16:55

I stop when I'm full or I've finished, whichever is first.
There's always something else to eat if I'm still hungry.

Yes this is the way! Although usually I end up leaving the healthy bits like veggies Grin so I try to eat them first, then the best bits.

Good tip! 😁

I don’t eat to being full up. I hate the feeling of fullness, even slightly full it’s a bit uncomfortable

I’d rather eat so I’m satisfied which is generally less than full. But it depends on my appetite at the time as sometimes to be satisfied I find I need more (might be monthly cycle dependent)

Lira91 · 14/07/2021 18:53

I used to eat until I was somewhat full, then top up with water/juice if I did get hungry. Then maternity leave and the first lockdown hit and I'm still eating the same but I'm less active. Boredom is also making me eat more and I just eat for the sake of eating, even if I'm not hungry 😔

thisplaceisweird · 14/07/2021 18:56

I sometimes stop eating when I feel full... But if it's really delicious then hell no I'm going to keep eating.
Life isn't about just taking what you need, fun happens just after that line

Aquamarine1029 · 14/07/2021 18:58

Never eat until you're full, you eat until you're satisfied/not hungry anymore. Always eating until you're full is a sure path to obesity.

MadMadMadamMim · 14/07/2021 19:03

I eat until I've finished everything on the plate, sadly. Even if it was a huge plateful.

We were brought up as kids to have to clear your plate and so I'm (apparently) incapable of scraping food into the bin because I'm full.

FredaFox · 14/07/2021 19:22

No cos I'm greedy 😂

Imapotato · 14/07/2021 19:32

I eat until it’s gone. I hate wasting food and if it’s on my plate and not disgusting then I’ll finish it if humanly possible!

Same thing in my eyes

And being restrictive is the path to an eating disorder.

I eat until I’m full and I’m not obese, I’m not even over weight. Could I be skinnier? Yes, I guess, I’m a size 10 and I could be an 8 or a 6, do I want to be? Not really.

The key is to burn more calories than you consume, not to eat restrictively.

purplesequins · 14/07/2021 19:37

well, I never eat until I'm full. I find feeling full very unpleasant.
I stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore.

FizzyPink · 14/07/2021 19:39

I calorie count so Monday to Friday, yes I religiously weigh everything I eat and stick to my allotted calories even if I’m still hungry.

However, on the weekends that all goes out the window and I eat whatever I fancy Grin

3Britnee · 14/07/2021 21:03

I'd call full, not being hungry anymore, and nicely satisfied.

Eating more after that until you are uncomfortable would be feeling stuffed.

Confused

I've never really thought about it but I suppose I do often finish eating before I'm full. I calorie count and have pretty small portions so often clear my plate but there might not have been much on it to start with!
