Help! Baby eaten bird poo

Sorry, NC, posting here for traffic.

My 8 month old has just eaten bird poo, likely a pigeon or jackdaw. We were in the back garden and it happened so quickly. I got it off him and out of his mouth but panicking as I know it can cause ecoli.

Should I do something or do I just have to wait in case he gets sick? Mobile children are a nightmare! Freaking out.

One of mine did this. I’d been watching House and convinced myself she’d get some bird-born disease or other, so took her to the GP who pretty much laughed me out of her office.

She said to keep an eye out for any flu-like symptoms, but it was highly unlikely that she’d catch anything from eating it as her stomach acid would deal with it.

I’m sure your DS will be fine, I was told there wasn’t anything preventative I could do to stop her getting ill but to try not to worry as it seems a common thing for them to do!

@MarkRuffaloCrumble oh thank you, so reassuring to hear this! I went on the dreaded Google and had such a freak out. They’re so quick and EVERYTHING goes straight in the mouth! and not great when you’re tired. Thank you. X

My eldest ate chicken poo when I turned my back for a second in someone's garden, he was absolutely fine! I loosened up about obsessively sterilising things after that though as the next day I found him trying to lick the pram wheels while practicing his crawling.

I know - it’s a wonder any of us survive given that when we’re tiny, eating things seems to be the best way to find out about them Grin

Mine was while we were at a garden centre, she picked it up off the top of a lid and just popped it in her mouth before I could stop her! I tried scraping it off her tongue and it was all over her lips Envy but she still managed to swallow some!!
