Hi

As the title says.

Can anyone recommend a car that fits 3 car seats in the back and has a boot large enough for a big dog and camping gear. We already have a roof box.
Or are we going to need look at vans?

Thanks

We used to get that in a 16 plate zafira.
2 wheelchairs too.
What stage seats do you have?
Some are wider than others.
We had 3 high back graco boosters.

You want to look at MPVs. Like the VW Touran.

Goldenfan · 11/07/2021 22:11

Thanks il take a look.
At the min we have 1 in high back booster. 1 in a joie 360 spin and will have 1 in a newborn seat. Middle dc will probably move to a hb booster soon to be honest as she's 4.

We just bought a ford galaxy, I think you could pretty much put any 3 carseats in the back. We have 3 isofix points (2019). We managed cybex sirona rear facing, joie bold and infant carrier

jammydodgersplease · 11/07/2021 22:14

We have an smax. Love it. Has 7 seat option too. Seats are separate and move independently so makes getting car seats in and out easier.

motogogo · 11/07/2021 22:14

Mazda 5 fitted 2 car seats, dog, camping gear etc and no roof mix needed. No longer in production not sure when they stopped. Had a newborn seat in addition a few times

BMW gran tourer 2 series I think

msbevvy · 11/07/2021 22:16

I've just ordered one of these. Large boot and takes 3 baby seats.

We originally had a VW Caravelle for 3 kids in car seats and assorted pushchairs, bikes etc., then later a Ford Galaxy. Can't comment on the dog cage as we've only had cats!
Just one thought - think about your curb weight if you're carrying camping gear. Our tent is 40kg alone, never mind the kit. We invested in a trailer which made life considerably easier (and safer).

I was sent this list which all can fit 3 car seats across the back comfortably:
VW Sharon
VW Touran
Seat Alhambra
Ford S-Max
Ford Galaxy
Citroen C4 Picasso or Spacetourer
Kia Carens
Peugeot 5008

Wombat36 · 11/07/2021 22:22

Definitely look at vans, much better space than any cars

Goldenfan · 11/07/2021 22:22

Brilliant thanks everyone

Ford smax or Ford galaxy
Or seat alhambra
Or VW Sharan

All meet your criteria with room to spare!

Volvo XC90
Huge boot, drives like a car and not a MPV or SUV

marthasmum · 11/07/2021 22:27

I have three teenagers, a large dog and want to go camping! I chose between a Ford galaxy, seat Alhambra and VW Sharon. I did loads of research but really glad I did - bought the galaxy and it’s been great. Depending how long you might keep the car for, one of the things that swayed me was that the galaxy has full size seats in the third row. I looked at vans but didn’t quite have the budget- but space wise it would be good because believe it or not, even with the galaxy’s huge boot and a roof box it’s a struggle to fit the camping stuff and dog in…I watched lots of you tube videos to help me decide!

I have a Citroen C4 grand Picasso and I absolutely love it. Really good fuel economy and loads of room for when people are out of car seats. Can easily fit DH 6’4” and DS 6’5” in it. Can also fit a full sized door in it when I drive it.

TiggeryBear · 11/07/2021 22:32

I have a VW Touran - take the seats you intend to use with you to see if they fit as the middle seat is narrower (mines 2006 but might be different in newer versions).
I could get 2x Britax HBB & a maxi cosi seat across the middle row but not the 2x Recaro HBB & the maxi cosi seat as the Britax seats are slimmer.

Wotrewelookinat · 11/07/2021 23:52

Ford Galaxy. 3 proper seats in the middle and we’ve taken out the 2 back seats leaving a huge boot. We previously had a Kia Sedona which was fab, they’re not made anymore but maybe some second hand.

OverTheRubicon · 12/07/2021 00:01

VW touran is really good if you want space but not a full size van like a zafira. It's got 3 isofix seats, but is also smaller and more manoeuvrable than many others, even seatings 7 with the two extra seats in the back down you can fit a dog or a bit of luggage (not easily both though). Lots of good second hand ones too.

Like a pp said though, you'll need to check car seats. Some like the Diono or Britax high backs are much narrower - if you're set on keeping the 360 spin, you'll need a full size mini van.

JustLyra · 12/07/2021 07:38

Fiat Doblo.

Ugly as sin, but utterly practical and actually really good to drive.

Linguaphile · 12/07/2021 07:38

Smax, 100%. We have 3 children and do self-drive camping and skiing holidays with them. When the back two seats are folded down the boot is enormous without compromising the comfort of the middle seats (all of which are full adult size, independently-reclining, have isofix, etc).

SherryPalmer · 12/07/2021 07:44

Ford smax has three proper seats in the middle row all with isofix. Then you can put the seats down in the back row and have a massive boot. It drives like a much smaller car.

We’ve also had a 2016-plates Volvo XC90 and struggled to get three car seats in the middle row and ended up having to use one of the back row seats when we went out as a family.

Same! We've had 2. So spacious.
