Betting help needed for the match

I am a complete betting novice but would like to put a bet on England tonight. From what I can gather if I put a tenner on England I win £25 but if I put a tenner on Italy I win £33. What is to stop me from putting a tenner on both and being quids in either way? I feel I must be being very dense here!

There's nothing to stop you doing that but it takes away from the fun of the gamble.

TWSAES · 11/07/2021 18:36

There might be a draw

Orf1abc · 11/07/2021 18:39

Bets are usually settled according to the result at ninety minutes. You'd need to cover the possibility of a draw also. You could also place a bet on a team to win, or not win, but that's going to be much more complex.

There can't be a draw in a final.

There will be extra time, penalties. Someone will win.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 11/07/2021 18:40

Or do I not get how it works with betting Blush

Marmaladee · 11/07/2021 18:41

Not possible to draw

That would be the "To win the trophy" category. Bets as standard are settled according to the result at the end of ninety minutes.

TWSAES · 11/07/2021 18:42

Those bets will be for 90 minutes tho8gh

walkoflifewoohoo · 11/07/2021 18:46

If it's a draw at 90 minutes then you'd win nothing

walkoflifewoohoo · 11/07/2021 18:46

"Not possible to draw"

In betting terms it is.

Ginisatonic · 11/07/2021 18:53

Have a look at the match specials on the bookies website. They are usually a bit more interesting than a straight win or draw bet. Odds are much higher on those too so your win - if you win - can be substantial. Just obviously be prepared to lose whatever you bet.

treesgoping · 11/07/2021 18:55

Thanks everyone. I had no idea it was based on 90 minutes and I think its highly likely to go to extra time at least. If it does, I owe you all a drink
with the money I've saved.

Thanks Gin. I had a look at William Hill and they are offering 8/1 on Italy Over 4 Shots On Target & England Over 5 Shots On Target I'm very tempted. What do you think?

Treesgoping. It’s very possible this would pay out. Just remember the odds are against you. But provided you’re happy to lose then it adds interest to the game.

HilaryBriss · 11/07/2021 19:28

It is possible to draw. Betting on one team to win with a Bookie will only count for the 90 mins of a match (plus added time). It is quite possible for it to be a 0-0 draw and then extra time would be played. which the bet would not cover.
