Absolute best fruit and veg delivery service?

Not local (it’s a poor offering)

So considering river Ford / able and Cole etc

Any other options? Thoughts? Worth it?

We eat a lot of fruit and veg and I wonder whether this may be a more economical way of getting great fruit

I'm a big Abel and Cole fan as I love all the extras you can get delivered alongside your regular box Grin

If it is just fruit and veg then odd box. We have abel and cole but I have to say their stuff doesn't last very long. The problem with any box is that there is always something you don't get round to using or just don't like so land up composting it.

GoWalkabout · 11/07/2021 19:09

I have struck gold with a local guy who is willing to personalise the box to keep my custom. My issue was that the produce was great but we would get just too much (a whole red cabbage, a whole savoy cabbage, a cauli, broccoli, a swede, a butternut squash, kale, beetroot etc) all of which I like but not in huge quantities every week, and a ton of potatoes but very few onions, and none of stuff we cook with all the time like Peppers, courgette, garlic, chilli, ginger etc and for fruit we would get four apples (I need 8-10 at least), pears (good for novelty but not wildly popular in our house), bananas (ok), grapes (ok) oranges (no one eats). So you need a scheme that offers you the quantities you want, of the regular items you will use, doesn't overload the things you don't (or you spend your whole time trying to use up and not waste stuff).

We get a large Riverford box each week and usually add dairy products as extras. When it arrives I see what’s included and meal plan around what’s in it.

Challengerice · 11/07/2021 19:31

Odd box… can I remove things? Or o you have to accept what you’re given? Not clear from the website

Same for riverford and able and Cole?

With Riverford you can pick up to three fruits or veg you don’t want and they alert you if any of them are going to appear in your box, with an option to switch box types for that week.

spinningspaniels · 11/07/2021 19:41

We have Riverford weekly, it's really simple to change your order and the veg lasts a week which is the most important part. There is a huge range of extras too, including bread, dairy, cheese, meal kits etc. Never had a bad box from them.

We did try Abel and Cole but I found that it didn't last at all..... you get an amazing trial box but the subsequent ones were really disappointing and actually had mouldy produce in on a few occasions.

FreeButtonBee · 11/07/2021 19:41

I really like odd box. It’s incredible value. I get a medium fruit and veg box once a fortnight which gives me time to use up the random stuff. But I do like to cook and am happy to be creative so don’t mind getting 8 passion fruit or two heads of fennel.

If you know what’s coming and don’t want so something Do they just reduce the order, add more if the other items and put in something extra?
