Curious L shaped curtain tracks - what are they for?

A house we purchased recently has these L shaped curtain tracks in the bay window of the living room. I can’t work out what they’re for - why would you only want to have curtains down the short sides of the bay and not be able to pull them all the way across the width of the long window?

Never seen them before and can’t see anything similar online in this track style - just wondered if there was something obvious I was missing! Grin We’re planning on getting a bendy track for all the way round.

Maybe to have net curtains at the sides as well?

Hmm - could have been but I think nets usually hang on a little pole or wire? These are proper tracks with the white plastic hooks. There’s some vertical blinds here too which the previous owners left up and which I have already managed to tangle many many times . The previous owner took her curtains with her and we never noticed when we came to view, or I would have asked her what they were for!

Still not as bonkers as a rental I had years ago where the curtain pole stopped half way across the window. I asked the letting agent about it because I wanted normal curtains, and she said the landlord insisted it stayed as a ‘design feature’ Hmm

It's so you can have the curtain completely out of the way of the window when you want the curtains open, to let the maximum amount of light into the room in the day time.

Dress curtains hanging just on the sides would be my guess.

Yep, the curtains are purely decorative, the blinds would have been used instead of curtains.

Look back at the EA pictures?

BruceAndNosh · 12/07/2021 08:24

They are for non functional dress curtains

I was going to say have at look at EA pictures. As they are not the full width I would say display curtain
