A cat has pissed in my house

I've been out overnight and forgot to seal up the dog flap in the back door.
Just got in and followed the reek of cat piss through the communal hallway and disappointingly, into my house.

I've just had the carpets professionally cleaned, four days ago.
Any tips? Will Febreze be up to the task? I have people coming to stay in a few days and the place stinks to high heaven

Biological washing powder/liquid will break down the cat pee and should eradicate the smell. Assuming you can find the offending patch/patches on your carpet?

Check your walls, door frames and bottom of furniture as well - spray goes quite high if it was a tomcat.

Sorry but I have literally just laughed out loud when I saw your post “A cat has pissed in my house.”
On a serious note I have 3 cats all male and it sounds like the cat has sprayed in your house.
Use dettol and a lot of it and that will get rid of the awful smell.

Buy enzyme cleaner formulated for cat pee.

Nothing else works, long term. You can use bleach or detergent, but cats will return if they can still smell it, even if you can't, and eventually your floors, etc will be ruined.

It's impossible to tell exactly where the spray has landed but I've dabbed a bit of lavender oil around for now. I can't put dettol down as it could ruin the carpet.

Dettol all the walls and doors. The cats can pee upwards....
