Job & House - WWYD

I have NC for this.

I’m in the middle of buying a house. Have my mortgage offer but not exchanged / completed. This stage is likely to be approx 4 - 6 weeks away.

My current job was fine until a few weeks ago. It’s turned absolutely toxic & it’s destroying my MH. I had to get medication from the Dr yesterday. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I dread getting out of bed. Those closest to me have noticed a change in my mood for the worse.

Luckily, I have a job to go to. It’s the same salary & no probation period etc. I had a look at my mortgage offer contract & the only thing it stipulates under ‘material changes you must tell us about’ is a drop in income. That wouldn’t apply here, however it’s weighing on my mind that it’s still a change in job, which they may class as a material change. If I was to hand my notice in, that may expire & I’d start the new job before completion. Ordinarily, they probably wouldn’t find out but I bank with them, so they’d see a salary from a different employer.

I spoke to my mortgage broker, who doesn’t know the full situation, just that I have a new job offer. He advised me to wait until completion, if possible.

My mind is so foggy at the minute, I just want a way out but I’m not sure what’s best

  1. Try and stick it out for another 4 - 6 weeks
  2. Speak to mortgage broker again and explain further to see if the bank will formally allow it
  3. Hand my notice in, say nothing to broker / bank, hope they don’t notice.

TIA

As hard as is it, I would try and stick it out. Do you have any holiday you can take?

mindutopia · 10/07/2021 12:36

I would try to stick it out. Can you take annual leave or sick leave or if you have kids, parental leave?

Stick it out!!! After my mortgage application there were several different checks/forms and questions that popped up before drawing down the mortgage. If you can't stick it out talk to the mortgage broker but don't hide it, you don't want the stress of worrying if the bank will find out the job change1

I could take some holiday, that’s a good point. I only get SSP, so that’s what’s putting me off taking sick leave. I have more than enough in savings to cover it, but again I’d be worried in case the bank check it and ask why the drop in income for a month.
