Increasing mirtazapine dose and the side effects

I’ve been on 15mg for a month and it’s helped a lot, I don’t feel upset or angry as soon as I wake up. However, I have gained half a stone and get restless legs at night sometimes.

I had an appointment today and to GP said it’s so different for everyone he couldn’t say if increasing the dose would make the side effects better or worse. So, please can anyone else that’s had side effects and increased the dose share their experience?

Sorry you've had no responses. I just googled this and happened to stumble across this thread. I'm interested in experiences as well because I've just increased from 15 to 30mg.

Before I moved on to different meds. In my experience the larger dose actually reduced the side effects, I lost the munchies but also lost the drowsy sleeping feeling at night.

I am on 30mg at the moment, currently considering a move onto 45mg. The weight gain difference wasn't noticeable between 15 & 30 but I found I still craved sweet things and carbs so I have to be careful with what I eat to manage it. My other symptoms such as the tiredness etc definitely reduced but it's a couple of weeks before you lose the sluggish feeling in the mornings. I found moving up a dose was like starting afresh with symptoms for a week or so while my body got used to the increase but afterwards things were noticeable better. If you feel comfortable mentally where you are I would stick with it for a little longer as a higher dose comes with it's own challenges x

Over the past 18 months I moved up from 15, 30 and now on 45. I stopped the constant eating once I hit 45. My weight is back to what it was before starting them. Being on them has transformed my sleep. The constant waking in the night has stopped. For the first time ever I wake and feel rested. It has also taken away being constantly anxious.

You don't sound like you have any reason to go higher. I think you would know if you needed to.

Sounds dramatic but they really have given me back my life.
