FFS, confusing alcohol calories!?

Fuck sake, I'm trying to knock off the red wine due to the calories.

So I thought instead of a large glass of red I'd have a nice bourbon and ice.

But having googled theres 105 calories in a shot of bourbon. So over the course of a long evening if I have 3 double bourbon and ices I'm having 600 odd calories = same calories as a bottle of wine?

What's your confusion?

timeofftorecover · 09/07/2021 22:26

How’s that confusing?

TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/07/2021 22:28

Yep. Singles would halve the calories, if that’s doable?

I thought a bloody spirit with ice would be less calories than a big glass of wine. I'm clearly a div.

Clear spirits will have less calories I beleive.

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2021 22:29

Seems quite clear.
Drink the wine if that’s what you fancy.

Lonecatwithkitten · 09/07/2021 22:30

Switch to dry Sherry 25 calories a glass. Boring retained fact from a wine tasting many years ago.

gamerchick · 09/07/2021 22:34

Prosecco is good for calories surprisingly. If you want to go for spirits then it's probably vodka.

Alas alcohol has calories. Quite scary some of them.

Hopdathelf · 09/07/2021 22:50

Vodka actually has quite a high calorie count. Sugar converts to alcohol so the higher the ABV generally the higher the calories.

Panaesthesia · 09/07/2021 22:50

Stop drinking if you're trying to lose weight. Yes, it has calories in. Why would you drink three double bourbons and then complain about the effects on your health? You sound like my mum, who says it's her 'genes' that make her put on weight even though she starts drinking red wine at lunchtime and often has a block of cheese in one hand, eating it straight from the wrapper.

HeadNorth · 09/07/2021 22:52

@Panaesthesia I have to say, your mum sounds a hoot.

Rainbowsew · 09/07/2021 22:53

Clear spirits are less calories, darker ones have more.

Mrbob · 09/07/2021 22:54

Stop drinking. Makes calculating it much easier.
