Help! Awful upstairs neighbours with kids ruining my home life

I live in a flat and above me are a family who also live in a 1 bed flat with 2 kids. For the past 3 years they have made my life a nightmare. Constant banging all time. I can’t nap in the day, I’m embarrassed to bring friends and family over because of the noise and banging they make. My ceilings literally shake. You can tell there is no room in their flat as the kid who is 6 runs back and forth from living room to bedroom and now she has a 1 year old kid and it’s already starting to create a lot of noise… I don’t mind the shouting and screaming so much but it’s the banging that drives me nuts.

I live in a housing association, I’ve filled out noise logs, reported them on several occasions. Went upstairs and spoken with them…

When I go upstairs to speak to them I knock the door and then they usually pretend they’re not in so I have to keep knocking till they answer… the mother said that she doesn’t care if I report her and she can’t do nothing about it.. as I type now.. my ceilings are shaking. I feel one day I’m going to lose it and say some things I will regret but they have no remorse.

She doesn’t put her kids to bed till 1/2 in the morning even on a school night…

Has anyone experienced the same thing? And I honestly don’t know what to do no more, I can’t take it and I don’t want to move as it’s a beautiful big flat.. and I’m close to my family but I’m worried that they won’t move as last year they got new carpet put down 🤯

Well they're overcrowded if it's social housing. I'd guess they will move when a 2 bed place comes up.

In fact noise complaints might actually highlight how unsuitable the property is for them & get them moved quicker.....

In general it's just tough luck unfortunately. Badly made flats with poor sound insulation and slow process to get adequately housed plus unfairness of expecting children to sit still 18 hours a day. But the time of day does make it a different issue. Unfortunately all you can do is keep making the reports, keep logs and see if they'll put sound equipment in to record it
