If you hate football what do you do that makes you feel like this?

Sneer all you like, but you can't knock something that gives people moments like this.

Assuming football doesn't do it for you, where do you get those moments?

I do know that quote and that is not what they said and not even close. I was there. Even you know that one...gfy Hmm

I don’t think it’s snobbery, I’m very working class and I still don’t like football. You can hardly be surprised that this thread has attracted people who don’t like football, given that the op was literally asking for the opinions of people who don’t like football.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 10/07/2021 08:49

Football has always been a working class game in this country and that shows in the attitudes to it on here

Tell that to Prince William and Prince George at the match.

It is nothing to do with class. Football is rough. The agressige fans are rough, the game is rough.

I couldn't stand sitting with a load of football fans cheering and shouting and singing their stupid songs.

Give me cricket or tennis any day in terms of live sport. I just don't like the environment or the way the fans behave in football.

There is A LOT of snobbery on this this thread. Football has always been a working class game in this country and that shows in the attitudes to it on here

I remember a lot of people screaming at Mo Mowlam winning his Olympic races with very few people complaining about the noise Hmm. Also very few people were sneering at the happiness in this country at how well our athletes did generally during the Olympics . When British athletes do well in other sports I don't notice anywhere near as much moaning about the fans or bemoaning the fact that the sport itself even even exists.

The fact is football is an incredibly popular game across the whole world, so it must have something going for it and I don't even watch it much. It can be quite dull a lot of the time but many sports are dull to watch in-between the moments of brilliance. Football is not alone in that.

Might have been Mo Farah at the Olympics. Not sure Mo Molam ever competed in the Olympics 😂🙈
ShowOfHands · 10/07/2021 09:03

@bumblingbovine49

I can't stop laughing at the idea of the 16yrs deceased Secretary of State for Northern Ireland running in the Olympics.

tigger1001 · 10/07/2021 09:06

I enjoy football. My son plays so watch it every weekend. Professional football, I like watching a good game, but it's not my favourite sport to watch.

Everyone is different and enjoys different things.

However, as another poster pointed out the annoying thing about sports bulletins is that they almost solely focus on football. If that's not your sport it can be annoying.

MsMiaWallace · 10/07/2021 09:17

Nothing working class about players salaries

ThursdayWeld · 10/07/2021 09:19

I play house music VERY LOUD Grin

Rioja81 · 10/07/2021 09:21

I don't remember quite the same level of furore over any Olympics?

Keepithidden · 10/07/2021 09:22

It feels to me like the same thing that religious folks get when they worship. Never understood it or has it myself with either football or religion...

...I am however quite jealous of those that do feel this euphoria! Closest I got was pills and trips back when I used recreational drugs!

Wanttocry · 10/07/2021 09:29

@Rioja81

I don't remember quite the same level of furore over any Olympics?
Neither do I, but even if there was, it’s about a month or so, once every 4 years (the Winter Olympics definitely does not get the same level of interest) so it’s much more bearable for people with no interest. Football is more of a constant presence.
Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 10/07/2021 09:56

Do you know all those people are euphoric though? I faked euphoria in a lot of pubs/mates house watching football in the past. Same with clubbing (maybe I should have tried some drugs Grin). I’m not doing it anymore.

Not even 2012? The Olympics in 2012 was everywhere. Schools did Olympic themed Things, Olympic torch tour etc.

I've never been a fan of the Olympics but the excitement of the 2012 ones really got to me.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 10/07/2021 10:01

Not a football fan but even this puts a sme on my face.

They think it's all over...Grin

CrouchEndTiger12 · 10/07/2021 10:02

Smile on my face

spiderlight · 10/07/2021 10:12

Rugby - especially Wales beating England!! I've tried to watch football because my partner likes it but I find it immensely frustrating. I just want them to pick up the ball and do something with it!

AChickenCalledDaal · 10/07/2021 10:36

I am a choral singer. Singing the Dies Irae in the Verdi Requiem, standing just behind the bass drum, really gets the adrenalin running and I feel those emotions afterwards when the music was sublime and we did a fantastic job. The Boat Race also does it for me, and so does the Wimbledon singles finals.

But not to the extent of running out in the street and shouting.

The best of Christian prayer and worship also gets me into that euphoric state. The irony that our prayer group was cancelled in order that people could watch the semi-final did not escape me.

PurpleParrotfish · 10/07/2021 10:40

Some of us just don’t get it, watching sport in general that is. When it’s not you or anyone you know playing why does it matter who wins? Mildly pleased or disappointed I can get, but why do you CARE so much about something that has no impact on your life?
I know most people do enjoy watching some sport or other so accept I’m in the minority here - maybe I’m missing some kind of gene for being emotionally invested in competition between other people?
I did try in my 20s, watching football with DH, but once I’d put in the effort to try and make myself care about the outcome it became stressful. Not fun in the slightest. And the matches go on for so long... Happily now DS1 can be his football-watching buddy.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 10/07/2021 10:43

I agree about the Olympics. It's all very well equating the two but you didn't get the Lev of public drinking etc, schools going in late etc

BarrenFieldofFucks · 10/07/2021 10:43

Me too @purpleparrotfish

User135644 · 10/07/2021 10:44

It's funny how some footy fans have this idea that they have access to some sort of higher state of euphoria than anyone else.

It's like being a junkie. You're chasing a high you might get once every so often (England every 55 years) and the rest is misery.

User135644 · 10/07/2021 10:47

@VerticalHorizon

Sport isn't the only thing... People got massively emotional at Diana's funeral, more than you could have naturally expected. Probably landing on the moon, or the first space shuttle launch. There is some strange emotional pull on groups of people if you push the right buttons at the right time, although different people are moved by different things, there is a lot of commonality too, hence mass hysteria or religious experiences.
The reaction to Diana's death was when the nation really lost the plot though.

My brain really is getting old!. Of course i meant mo Farah. What a Bloody idiot . I even remember typing it and wondering if I'd spelt it right as it somehow looked 'wrong'

The stress...last 7 minutes against City in the Champions League final were horrible..and you cant do anything but watch and wait!!!

Not everyone's cup of tea and that's fair enough. It's when people look down on football fans or make their own judgement..every club has its idiots but not every fan is the same
