Gas after laproscopy!

Givemeallthegin8 · 09/07/2021 09:03

Had a laproscopy yesterday afternoon and the pain from trapped gas is unbearable. I cant lie down , have been sitting up all night Sad
I’ve had peppermint tea , fizzy drink ( as advised by nurse !) walking around every 30 mins /60 mins ( only for like a minute !)

Am on nurofen and paracetamol

Any tricks to get this pain gone / gas relieved?!

Holding a very firm pillow close to your abdomen helped me the most.

It goes eventually but don't be tempted to take codeine - big mistake! Then you have the same pain plus constipation.

WokeGroaker · 09/07/2021 09:07

Get Rennie Deflatin over the counter. Works a treat for this.

Mrsjayy · 09/07/2021 09:11

It will go but my god doesn't it hurt ? Lie on your left side with your knees up see if it shifts also try "windeaze". You should get them at any chemist. Or plain boiled water don't bother with mint tea .

Thanks for quick replies !
Will get dh to pick up some rennie

I did think about the codine ( I’ve had my fair share of constipation issues 🤭) but the pain is quite bad at the moment . Hoping to be off the codeine by tomorrow 🤞

Honestly taking medicine for normal gas pain is pointless, the gas is in your abdominal cavity not your intestines.

Sleeping and sitting as upright as you can helped me. Walking is good too so that the gas isn’t all in one spot. Only time and painkillers are effective unfortunately.

I convinced myself I was having heart failure after a lap procedure Blush
I hadn't realised they pumped gas in the surgical area, I thought they meant digestive wind in stomach or bowels.
I ended up having a day on diazepam until it relieved a bit.

Givemeallthegin8 · 09/07/2021 09:17

@Mrsjayy it’s so bad . I had it after both c sections but not as bad as this !

I can’t actually lie on my side at all - the only way I can sit comfortably is to sit up straight and walk around for a bit .

Such a pain !

🤣🤣
If I wasn’t warned about the gas pain, I would honestly think I was having some kind of heart failure too 🙈

Oh can you not lie down ? I have had keyhole twice last time was when I was sterillised. The pain is hard to describe. Try hot water see how it goes OR sit on the toilet with your feet raised on a stool .

Givemeallthegin8 · 09/07/2021 19:54

Thanks!

Yes @Mrsjayy could’nt lie down Sad
Am improving now thank god. Have had a shower and spent some time with the dc before they went to bed.
Am back in bed myself , still sore but definitely on the rd to recovery . I’ll be glad when these gas pains go that’s for sure!

Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow,

iwouldlikearefundonmybody · 09/07/2021 23:11

Try rennie in the red packet. If you are allergic to sweetners and things like sorbitol, I wouldn't recommend windeeze.

I hope you feel better soon! Thanks

tiredmama2020 · 09/07/2021 23:17

@Givemeallthegin8 Hope you feel better soon OP! It’s a time thing unfortunately 😔 I had horrific pain after I had my gallbladder removed and hadn’t expected it at all. The pain in my shoulders from the gas was absolutely awful!

RedBonnet · 11/07/2021 14:28

I was told to have super strong mints. I forgot their name, red xxx ones
