When to make birthday cake?

My sons party is Sunday afternoon. The cake will be a Madeira cake, iced with butter icing and fully covered in fondant.
Originally, my plan had been to bake it on Friday and decorate it on Saturday. I’m now off work tomorrow and have lots of time (it’s quite intricate). Would it be ok to bake tonight and ice tomorrow? Keep in the fridge once done? Wait and stick with my original plan of bake Friday and Ice Saturday?

I’m feel I am way over thinking this 😂 I’m coeliac and this will be a regular cake, which I don’t bake often so not sure how long they keep.

Thanks in advance :)

It will keep ok, but don't put fondant in the fridge as it makes it wet - I've made that mistake myself. As long as the fondant folly covers it it will stay fresh until Sunday.

Thank you!
Think I’m worried as I can’t eat it so will have no idea how it tastes

Will be fine made today. I made one a couple of years ago - madeira, buttercream and fondant icing. Had to postpone party by a week due to snow, and was still fine to eat (after about 9 days instead of the planned 2). Just keep in airtight container or box once fondant on (not fridge).

Once the fondant is on, don't put it on an airtight box as this also makes it wet. Madeira make keeps well so baking today too eat on Sunday is fine.

I usually make the cake itself a few days ahead and freeze the layers; it is much easier icing a partly frozen cake.

Thank you all. It will be getting a short blast in the freezer to help me cut and shape it. I will make tonight and ice tomorrow, keep it covered, outside the fridge once done. Thank you!

Good luck, my kids have always loved having cakes made for them Smile
