Choir rehearsals!

Bloodybridget · 07/07/2021 08:17

I just heard on the radio that choirs will definitely be allowed to rehearse indoors after 19th July. I had thought we should be, but hearing it confirmed was fantastic, and made me feel so happy! My choir will resume rehearsals on 7th September. Anyone else desperate to get back to singing with other people?

Yes! We're planning going back in September. I've so missed it.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/07/2021 08:21

I can't wait. I am in Scotland though so I don't know what our guidance will be. We have done one outdoor sing and have another few planned over the summer so I am looking forward to those!

We have been singing outside this term. It's so good to be singing again. But in our group of 50, we've never had more than 15 come along. I fear the numbers will have dwindled massively by September, which is a huge shame.

We meet on the beach now

Ooh, choir on the beach sounds absolutely wonderful!

That sounds amazing - I would LOVE that! We've been meeting either in a massive local park (often with a circuit class, a yoga class and the scouts in the same area!) or a community woodland, where there's a big clearing designed for communal activities. It's been lovely having the birds to listen to and the rabbits to watch, but not so nice singing in the rain and wind! Some of us are hardcore, and have been there in ALL the weather.

Yes! My choir (large London one which works with professional orchestras) has been unable to rehearse in person since March 2020. Choral singing is a huge part of my life and I can’t wait to get back.

Seeline · 07/07/2021 10:30

I can't wait.

We've kept up with zoom over the whole period. My choir leader runs two small groups, and she has combined the two but still run two sessions a week so we can go to either or both. We have had online concerts and taken part in virtual choir shows with other choirs. Since June we have been allowed 6 people in a very large church hall with all the doors and windows open and masks on whilst the others join on zoom, but it really isn't the same.

We are supposed to be having an outdoor get-together very soon which will be great, but lots are still reluctant to join in.

Getting back to proper rehearsals will be fantastic. A good sing makes me feel great!

Bloodybridget · 07/07/2021 12:17

Great to hear from others who are excited. We didn't have the possibility of meeting outdoors but I would have done it if we had. Although as we almost never sing a capella I don't know how it could have worked!

I can’t wait to start singing with my choir again!
Perhaps if we had sung footie anthems with a pint in hand we could have done it sooner. Grin

Yes, can't wait! My choir have been meeting outdoors but 2 rehearsals had to be cancelled due to bad weather. It will be amazing to be back to normal again!

We wondered if we did actions to the songs we could count as a zumba class......
badpuma · 07/07/2021 12:32

Yes - I'm so pleased - my choirs have had to cancel so many concerts and shows for the last 18 months. I just really hope this time it sticks!

ReviewingTheSituation · 07/07/2021 14:07

Ah yes - I'd forgotten about accompanying instruments etc. We are a natural voice choir, so nothing other than ourselves needed. Typical that the restrictions change on 19th July, but our term ends on 14th!

SpikeDearheart · 07/07/2021 14:16

Wonderful news, I can't wait! We've been rehearsing outdoors recently but so looking forward to getting back to things properly.

Bloodybridget · 07/07/2021 19:47

Hope everyone has a very happy return to proper rehearsals. I'm also suggesting to the people who come to an early music voice group at my house that we could schedule a session; have had a few enthusiastic responses . .

That is beautifully put! I can't wait to hear music and choirs in real life again!
Faircastle · 07/07/2021 20:11

I sing in an auditioned choir of over 100, which hasn't been able to rehearse since March 2020.
We have access to a very large venue where we can rehearse indoors with space between us, so we were just waiting for the restrictions on numbers to be lifted.

I've joined an online choir but there's nothing quite like singing together in the same room.

We hope to start rehearsing in September, for a November concert. I suspect that the first rehearsal might feel a bit emotional after 18 months apart.

Bloodybridget · 07/07/2021 21:35

God yes @Faircastle, I get a lump in my throat just imagining seeing the other members of my choir again!

Last summer we managed a few indoor rehearsals, singing in masks and distanced. The first rehearsal we ended with a beautiful piece by Tallis - no music needed as we all knew it, just voices coming together. I cried. I don't think I was the only one.

gillysSong · 08/07/2021 10:10

So pleased for you. My dd choral practice, rehearsals and concerts have been going throughout.
It's nice to see it coming back, too much music had to be stopped. Thanks
