'No time wasters please'

headintheproverbial · 06/07/2021 21:45

Why do people put this on ads? If you are an actual time waster it's unlikely to put you off, surely??

What other nonsensical yet commonplace expressions do people use?

I once tried out a horse who was described as a safe solid happy hacker suitable for a mother daughter share.

It took 30 minuyes to catcj him. he then kicked the owner when she tightened the girth, and bucked every time he started to canter.

I said thanks but no, not right for me and then was re=advertised that night with ' no time wasters'.

Um- fuck off. You wasted my time.

CherryRipe1 · 07/07/2021 07:34

Don't really see this one so much nowadays but: Baby forces sale. Visions of a dominant baby in a leather baby grow & cap.

heidbuttsupper · 07/07/2021 07:37
  • 'Pick up only'
  • 'Can you deliver'
rosydreams · 07/07/2021 07:54

i hate that it usually means i wont hold the item at all .Now i understand a few days is to long but when you say ok i can visit tomorrow .Then they give it to someone else after agreeing a time.Saying someone else is collecting earlier

kierenthecommunity · 07/07/2021 07:56

Selling sue to change in colour scheme” - this one really bugs me especially if it’s a sofa that’s only 6 months old. No one keeps things any more work with what you’ve got

I’ve noticed these too - and the sellers always live on very ordinary housing estates. I could understand it if they were super wealthy. They must just have money to burn.

I saw one the other day where someone was selling a very plain and ordinary grey Argos garden table, chairs and parasol. Only two months old but it ‘didn’t match the garden.’ I’m trying to imagine what colour garden she had

I cannot stand on freecycle sites: 'it's a big ask, but' usually followed by a caravan to renovate or a tumble dryer, washing machine etc. Always followed by the fact they can't drive so can you deliver. Some people are just scrounging CFs

spotcheck · 07/07/2021 08:02

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

"genuine faux leather"

🤔

Was that farmed faux? Or from a wild faux? Either way, we need to raise awareness about the plight of the faux. Their numbers are not what they used to be 😔
BrownEyedGirl80 · 07/07/2021 08:02

Needs a wipe/clean .Do it then you scruffy git.

PennyDreadful66 · 07/07/2021 08:04

A bit different but I love when people are selling something and they're like "never been worn" and they are literally wearing it in the picture Grin

Yes! Or ‘pet free home’ and there’s a cat happily sitting in the background of the picture Grin
AdobeWanKenobi · 07/07/2021 09:43

Why would anyone offer above the asking price?

Because that’s how some listings work on eBay. Auction is live so you can bid it up as usual, but you can send offers. If the seller finds the offer agreeable they end the auction.

AdobeWanKenobi · 07/07/2021 09:43

There is an echo in here 😂

TubeOfSmarties · 07/07/2021 10:22

My fave on dating sites is "no mums".

For so many reasons

IncessantNameChanger · 07/07/2021 13:41

I always say pickup from X village on my towns recycle, clothing bank, selling site. First line.

Guaranteed every response is "where do you live?" Followed by "sorry it's too far"

To be fair it's always cheeky fuckers who can read but also want your free item, delivered to their door at a time that suits them and not you. Why do this when I can drop Everything off in one go at one charity shop at a time and place of my choice?

Every single bundle of kids clothes I offer for free get earmarked by the same person who knows she is never going to pick it up. She cant drive, has no one to do it for her, (doesnt ask me if I can drop it off to her to be fair, I only know this as she repeatedly called out for not asking for drop off as she cant drive)

So my donations never get a look by anyone else as she has earmarked it all on a promise she might pick it up eventually. It's all with the charity shop now. I dont want to store it. Because of this happening four times in a row I dont even offer it out now it just goes straight to charity.

That grates on me too as it's my CF. Anyone got a sofa, bbq, patio furniture, holiday home, semi detached, x type jag, a months wages, their nanny services, a 50" plasma TV, food for a month, horse and paddock. Followed by.... sorry that's too far 🤯
ValerieMalone · 07/07/2021 13:57

@happinessischocolate

"Needs a clean"

So bloody clean it then

But the point is I don’t plan to spend my time cleaning it. I have priced it accordingly so a buyer could get a deal on a perfectly good item if they are willing to spend 30 minutes washing it.

I thought this was understood. In future should I explain it all?

Paddling654 · 07/07/2021 14:08

'Do someone just starting out/great starter'

No one who knows what they're looking at would consider this fit for purpose.

Paddling654 · 07/07/2021 14:15

How very dare they.

KatherineJaneway · 07/07/2021 14:58

@hellywelly3

When they say “message for price”! Just put the bloody price on. Or “sensible offers only” again just put the price you want!!
Just like job adverts with 'Competitive salary' in them.

I bet it isn't!

pasturesgreen · 07/07/2021 15:03

Ebay clothes auctions: "Brand new with tags, only selling because I lost/gained weight"

I don't want to know the reason why you're selling it, and tbh if you're selling loads of BNWT items my first thought is shoplifting.

YorkshireT · 07/07/2021 15:05

To add to the colour scheme thing, one lady was selling a gorgeous immaculate black travel system - bargain price, so I bought it when I was pregnant for DD.

When I collected it she was also pregnant and was selling it ‘because she wanted a girly pram and she couldn’t be pushing a girl in black.’ I was like…..I’m having a girl too!

It was awkward Grin but I did love that pushchair, DD was happy enough in it

Gingerkittykat · 07/07/2021 15:49

Me and my partner are just starting out and we are struggling for money and wonder if anyone can gift the following items to us. Then there is a shopping list of hoovers, leather sofas and other white goods.

Gingerkittykat · 07/07/2021 15:51

@TubeOfSmarties

My fave on dating sites is "no mums".

For so many reasons

Why?

Now my DC are older I wouldn't want to date someone with young kids and it's surely better to be upfront about it rather than knowing a potential date is not interested in spending time with kids.

Yes!

Exactly the same here

When we were looking for my DD’s pony, I came across no end of adverts with “no time wasters”.

They’d never put important stuff like the price, or size. You’d message them and when the pony was over budget, or too small or whatever, they’d accuse you of being a time waster.

Put the fucking information in the ad then, I don’t give a shit whether it’s your heart horse or a sad sale, you’re selling it, I want to know how much it is, how big it is and the likelihood of it killing my daughter

Then when we went to visit one described as 14.2hh and when we got there it was 13hh tops, the seller accused me of being a time waster 🤬

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 07/07/2021 16:39

I once sold a hard hat through a newspaper ( long time ago obviously). A family came and when the daughter tried it on it was too small. They accused me of advertising the wrong size in the paper. I got the paper out and sure enough the size was correct. 'Well that's not what it said in our paper' they said.Confused
