Theft - wwyd?

A neighbour has a man who does regular DIY in his house. He seemed to do a good job so I asked him to do a few bits and pieces for me. During the time he was in my house (about 4 hours), jewellery went missing from my bedroom. There was no-one else in the house but him and me so I have not a shadow of a doubt that he took it.

The man denies theft and is still working for my neighbour who will not tell me his surname or any details. I've reported him to the Police and plan to get his number plate which should supply details. Neighbour wants me to drop it but I'm so angry - why should this man get away with it?

He's very rough looking and now I feel like my house has been cased and I'm terrified of burglary especially as i live alone. My only thought now is to move as this doesn;t feel like my safe home now and I'm desperately upset to have lost jewellery that was very dear to me.

What can/should I do? Do I ask the Police to come out next time I see him around? I'm angry, scared and deeply upset by this.

Ring the police now before he has time to get rid.

I have reported him and have a case number. I've rung the local pawn shops. The Police aren't very interested.

Keep ringing until they are.

I would keep bothering them until they take it seriously. I would not leave it as your neighbour has asked - I bet they would be saying differently if the shoe was on the other foot!

I would get the locks changed too, just in case.
