How much would you pay for a week in a caravan?

We really love caravan breaks, dc love all the onsite facilities etc. I usually book cheapies in term time.
Now eldest dc is of school age I was having a look for a week next August, the prices are eye watering!
Does anyone happily pay 800+ for a week? Does it feel good value or do you end up wishing you'd gone abroad?

I'd expect to be paid to spend a week in a caravan.

StylishMummy · 06/07/2021 15:27

For a week on a nice site, right on the coast in a 6 berth caravan, with onsite pool/entertainment, I'd pay up to £1200 in summer holidays.

We've just been to a John Fowler park in Polperro, Cornwall and paid £600 for a full week, stunning site, top spec caravan and so close to all the main attractions inc Looe beach/Polperro

FindingMeno · 06/07/2021 15:28

I was thinking about £100-£200 Shock

margoyuwer · 06/07/2021 15:31

Eurocamp type caravan on French or Spanish site with lots of facilities summer is around 1.5 - 2K for a week depending on early booking discount etc. Would probably not pay the same for UK though

Really rude comment to someone who is considering it for their holiday. Nasty and snooty. Hope you feel good about yourself @Ifailed
TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 06/07/2021 15:33

My parents pay that FindingMeno but they bring the caravan with them!

Yes things have changed. I'm not a fan of touring caravans, but would consider statics now we have a child. That's not bad at all stylishMummy I'd pay that!

£800 for a caravan in high season is expensive, but when holidays are limited like they are this year its not too bad.

ChocOrange1 · 06/07/2021 15:34

Depends on so many factors - location, on site facilities, how nice the caravan is etc.

waitingforwinter · 06/07/2021 15:34

@Gardenwalldilema completely depends on the location!! We got an absolute bargain for next Spring - £120 Mon-Fri in a 3 bedroom top spec caravan. Haven’t visited the park before but there’s lots to do in the area so should hopefully make a good base anyway!

PixieKitten · 06/07/2021 15:35

Buy your own for that price!

lalafafa · 06/07/2021 15:36

I’ve seen some caravans in Wales for £1700 a week. We have a week in one, 4 years ago we paid £600 for a 3 bed caravan , I’ve just paid £1,100 for the same one. Don’t know where you would go abroad for £800 OP?

Ifailed · 06/07/2021 15:38

@Comedycook
I feel fine thank-you. OP asked an open question, I answered it.

OnTheBrink1 · 06/07/2021 15:39

£800 is cheap / standard for a caravan in august isn’t it? I paid that 3 years ago for one on the isle of wight 6 birth. Would never do it again though Because sleeping on the sofa bed was absolutely awful for a week

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/07/2021 15:40

Pre-COVID I would pay about £750 for a week in a Cornwall caravan.

Since COVID I'd say that price has doubled

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/07/2021 15:40

But that's on a nice site with pool, park, restaurant, bar, arcades, entertainment etc

motogogo · 06/07/2021 15:41

Typically it's £700 at a very basic site to £1300 at a big site with lots of facilities for a newish model. You can get deals on older models.

Look at park holidays or park resorts for cheaper prices (but a chain with kids clubs) they vary in facilities and prices accordingly but we found them ok for the price we paid, £600 2 years ago

And your answer was about as useful as a chocolate teapot

We often go away in August for a week in a caravan and generally pay up to £1k for an 8 berth on a Haven site or similar. We don't usually go for the cheapest though.

LotsoTheStrawberryBear · 06/07/2021 15:49

I've paid £585 for 3 nights (!) Peak holiday season for 6 of us on a 3 bed caravan. A Haven site so lots of facilities on site. I consol myself by saying its half the price of center parcs at the same time!

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 06/07/2021 15:58

I think £800 for a good site is normal. We've paid £860 and to get that price we've had to sneak into term time. The week after it was double, and a lot have sold out.

Surely this year it's pay or no holiday?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/07/2021 15:59

Wow. I wouldn't pay that. I pay £200-£300 for a Butlins break with entertainment and food included!

LemonRoses · 06/07/2021 16:01

At the moment ours is letting for over £1,000 for a three day break and over £4k for a week. It is fully booked throughout August when we would also pay not to be there.

kerkyra · 06/07/2021 16:04

I'm going to a John Fowler site near Looe next Saturday paying £700. It's the cheapest 'bronze' type so quite old but with all the pools and entertainment, plus a walk into the town, mackeral fishing trips etc it's perfect for the DC.

Angel2702 · 06/07/2021 16:06

We usually pay about £1200 for 7 of us at a Haven type park in August.

Concestor · 06/07/2021 16:08

Do you not feel you are profiteering? There's no way a caravan is worth that.
