Anyone good at maths? My brain is fried...

If this is really simple please don't scoff, I have some issues which make my maths skills almost zero and I get confused easily.

I am planning a trip and have 2 options.

Can you tell me the price difference. The deposits and flights are confusing me :(

It's the same thing but through different companies but package 2 had additional support so trying to figure out if it's worth it.

A) package = £2400 (I have already paid £150 deposit) so £2250 left to pay

  • Flight £280

B) Package = £3100 but you get £260 back if you've booked your flights. Which I already have.

So I would get £260 back from that.

But have still laid out £280 for my flight.

So what is the total separate and the difference?

Total outlay for A is 2680,
total for B is 2840 with discount plus flight if you’ve already paid so 3120.
440 more expensive!

Package A is £2,680 (package inc deposit, flight)

Package B is £3,120 (package, minus cash back, plus flight)

Package B is £440 more as is. If you ditch package A, you’ll presumably lose the deposit. So £440 more expensive plus lost deposit: £590. Are the extras worth £590?

A) Total price £2680

B) Total price £3120

So Option B is £440 more expensive.

If you forget what you've already paid:
Option A: total cost = £2400 + £280 = £2680
Option B: total cost = £3100 - £260 + £280 = £3120

If you factor in what you've already paid:
Option A: you've already paid £280 + £150, so you've got £2680 - (£280 + £150) left to pay: £2250
Option B: you've already paid £280, so you've got £3120 - £280 left to pay: £2840

Option A is definitely the cheapest whatever way you look at it Smile

Option B - £2840+flight £280
Option A - £2400+flight £280

Stick with option A and save £440

Justilou1 · 06/07/2021 13:21

Package A = £2530 left after the deposit or £2680 including the deposit
Package B = £2860
Package B = £180 more expensive. Only you can decide if you think it’s worth it. (Personally, I think additional support usually is.)

TheNorthWind · 06/07/2021 13:22

Very good pint about the deposit too. I didn't factor that in.

It'd need to be some VERY good support to make it worth it.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 06/07/2021 13:27

But the deposit, even though you already paid it, is still money you had to pay, so should be included in the calculations.

Thankyou guys. Will stick with A
