Gin flavours & mixers tips

I’ll be going to a Gin festival with friends but I’ve never been a gin drinker as I’ve always found it bitter. I can’t have quinine which is found in tonic so can anyone recommend any other mixers and flavours to try and ask for? I once had a rhubarb gin with ginger ale and lime which I liked.

(I’m going just to be with my friends and the festival does offer prosecco, rum, pimms in case anyone wonders why I’m going).

'Love Tonic' is quinine-free

Fevertree sodas are great mixers. Try spiced orange ginger ale with orangey or raspberry gins

Double Dutch make a range of 'mixers' - eg pomegranate+basil, cucumber+watermelon.

Also, I like drinking some gins with a dash of liqueur or cordial then topped up with soda water or Prosecco. Eg St Germain or limoncello.

Experiment with gins and find a flavour profile you like and ask for guidance from the gin purveyors. Garnishes also add flavours, eg peppercorns, grapefruit peel, star anise.

Lemonade, preferably the posh lemony one or bitter lemon or orange is another good one.
