Provisional driving licence application - anyone provided passport info but still been asked for a photo?

We applied online for my sons provisional driving licence and entered his passport details thinking we wouldn't have to then provide a photograph as it can be linked to his passport information.

However they have now sent a form requesting a photo and identification - the main form of which is his passport number, which I have already provided.

Its impossible to speak to anyone at DVLA due to the current strike action, so I was just wondering if anyone else has provided passport information for an application but still been asked for a photo, or whether there has been some sort of mix-up.

The advice is that there are months of delay with paper applications but no delay to online applications, which is why I was trying to apply online.

Has anyone had this situation before?

I’ve literally just had this problem too. The driving licence took a little longer to come back. I think I applied beginning of may and it arrived about a fortnight ago. I couldn’t understand why they didn’t just use passport details.

The lady at the photo shop who took the pictures for DD yesterday said they have to be less than 3 months old. Which would explain why for most people they can't just use the passport photo.
I guess however that they can visually verify it looks like the passport and thus don't need the photo countersigned?

DS applied in Feb using his passport and it came back really quickly. So, no.

Sorry, I know that probably doesn't help much.

@madasamarchhare did you get the photo signed and complete the verification section on the form to return with the photo or just send it back with the photo and passport number?

Dd applied online for hers in March giving the passport details. The passport had only just been issued the same week (so recent photo) but they still asked for a new photo.
We just sent form back with passport number, photo and signature. Didn’t fill in the verification or countersign the photo.

Took about 8-9 weeks to come back though.

Yes we did. Because when we were in the hospital with him we said his name would be Peter Paul so that is on his original NHS record, but when we registered him at the Registrar of Births, we said his name would be Peter Paul Patrick and so his NHS name and his birth certificate (and passport) don't match. At least - I think that was why we had to provide a photo.

Despite that, his driving licence only has Peter Paul on it...whereas his passport has Peter Paul Patrick.

So maybe it was just the three month thing!

Thanks everyone - have sent it back with new photo now so fingers crossed!
