Is it just me who feels like the weather forecast always gets worse?

I tend to look at the weather forecast a week ahead, to plan things and at the minute it just always seems to get worse in the lead up to the day never better.

Last weekend we had a day out on Saturday. When I'd looked at the weather the sunday before it said sunny and 18 degrees so seemed like a great day to book tickets for a thing we wanted. Throught the week this just got worse and worse and by the friday its said heavy rain, 15 degrees

We're booked to ago away this coming weekend and on sunday the weather forecast for the place we were going looked lovely. We figured great book tickets for xyz on the sunday (cheaper when booked in advance) and we'll go to the beach saturday. Well great now the forecast for saturday has changed from sunny to rain starting at 2PM and I just know it will get worse as the week goes on

It feels like the forecast never improves just gets worse. I know I should try not to plan ahead but some things need to be. We never let it spoil our fun but it's so annoying

No, mine seems to get better. A few times this year it's forecast solid rain for the next few weeks. Then it's been more showers here and there.

This week was meant to be raining all week here. But we have had showers at night and the odd one during the day. For about 20 mins a time and it been lovely inbetween.

lavenderlou · 06/07/2021 06:40

Recently it has. I regularly look at the 10 day forecast on the BBC and for at least the last few weeks the forecast has always been good for the following week but by the time it arrives the weather is actually terrible. It's usually not that accurate more than 2 or 3 days ahead but it seems particularly pointless looking at the moment. Perhaps we are between weather systems and it's hard to predict.

Bluntness100 · 06/07/2021 06:46

Mine says it’s getting better from Thursday, honestly I’m pig sick of it, it’s absolutely pissing down here again and I had to shove the heating on for a bit as the house was cold when I got up this morning,

I rarely think the weather turns out to be what is predicted nowadays . Even when you look on weather for the same day , it’s always different to what the weather is in your area . You can’t plan anything . How many times do we hear “we going to have a heatwave next month for the whole month“ yet it rains for 6 weeks solid instead ! This summer is virtually a wash out we’ve hardly had any sun this year at all , mainly rain . Yet we are told to holiday in the uk and sit on the beaches under umbrellas and pay ££££ for the pleasure of being cold , wet and miserable ! Great holiday that is !

Whinge · 06/07/2021 07:08

I've found the same here OP. Any hint of sunshine in the future and it's almost guaranteed to be pissing it down and howling winds on the actual day.

It's been such a miserable summer so far. I'm such of it being wet and windy. Sad

Whinge · 06/07/2021 07:16

sick, not such.

MNHQ any chance of that edit button. Grin

TheChosenTwo · 06/07/2021 08:28

I just always presume it’s going to be grey and drizzly - it’s mostly right Grin

MotionActivatedDog · 06/07/2021 08:36

Well I’m not sure where you are but we’ve had some really lovely days, haven’t you had any?

Indigopearl · 06/07/2021 08:39

BBC weather has been rubbish since they switched from the met office. Anything further that 3 days ahead they seem to just put sunny spells as the default and then switch it nearer the time.

I have just bought loads of grass seed in the hope it brings of a long spell of sunny hot weather.

Mablefly · 06/07/2021 08:45

We've taken 3 gambles on outside events over the last month. The weather was predicted rain but at the last minute was lovely. We had a Father's Day BBQ, an outside breakfast and this weekend an evening meal outside at a restaurant. We have certainly done our fair share of huddling under gazebos over the winter and spring but I'm stubborn and just ignore the weather forecast and hope for the best!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/07/2021 08:47

We’re guaranteed rain whenever someone buys garden furniture/ convertible car/ parasol etc. All of those have happened here lately.

stillcrazyafterall · 06/07/2021 08:49

I get you. Last weekend the forecast was 'light showers' - it pissed down so hard my windscreen wipers couldn't cope on fast! It was a DELUGE and many local areas had flooding. Still there were people sitting on the beach. Wasn't you was it OP? 😂

megletthesecond · 06/07/2021 08:50

I'm partly responsible as I bought a Philips lumea to do my legs. We've only had a few shorts days haven't we.

SmileyClare · 06/07/2021 08:51

Yes! This is a typical example of the sun promised for next week. I guarantee it'll change to rain and wind nearer the time. We're having such a disappointing summer.

My husband re-seeded a bald patch on our lawn about three weeks ago. The combination of sunny spells and much rain has resulted in excellent growth. So maybe sow it now?

Frankly it's my only consolation - I just hope there will be an opportunity to sit out and enjoy the lush lawn soon. Sigh.

Pinotwoman82 · 06/07/2021 08:54

Lol I was actually thinking the same after doing school run. I thought I’m sure bbc weather hadn’t forecast this last week

Whinge · 06/07/2021 09:00

@MotionActivatedDog

I wouldn't say go as far as saying it's all been rubbish, but nice weather has definitely been in the minority. I would say

80% wet and windy
10% nice
10% start off wet and miserable, but then we get a few hours of dry weather in the afternoon.

It's been bad enough that there were days in June that I had my heating on Sad

roses2 · 06/07/2021 09:01

It's a conspiracy by the government who are asking weather companies to create false hope of sunshine and heat to take our minds off they aren't going to be allowing holidays abroad this year.

Chipsahoy · 06/07/2021 09:19

East mids here and it’s generally better than they forecast.
Lovely and hot and sunny yesterday even though they predicated rain. We live in a valley though, think that helps

Youdiditanyway · 06/07/2021 09:26

Noticed the opposite tbh. It said it would rain all day today here, we had a little bit of drizzle first thing but it’s bright and sunny now and the forecast has changed to no rain at all. We went to the coast over the weekend and it said it would thunder and rain most of the time but it was absolutely fine! Think it rained for an hour the whole time we were there.

garlictwist · 06/07/2021 09:29

Yesterday I decided to go out for a little bike ride - checked the met office and it said cloudy turning sunny. Set off and five miles in the heavens opened and it didn't stop for the whole time I was out.

If they can't even get the weather right for the same day there's no hope!

giletrouge · 06/07/2021 09:34

Frankly I've got no bloody idea about forecasts which are never accurate for long but it's like winter here, seriously like winter (Sussex). Rain, wind, cold, grey. Heating and woolies on. Pah. Grump.

ChocOrange1 · 06/07/2021 09:37

The forecasts this summer have been incredibly inaccurate for us, even just the day before.

We were camping the late May Bank Holiday weekend. I was considering cancelling the week before, because the forecast was awful. It ended up being the hottest weekend of the year.

We had tickets to legoland yesterday (Monday). On Friday the forecast was for rain all day. On Sunday it was forecast to be 75% rain. We didn't get wet at all.

Arthurianna · 06/07/2021 09:59

It's hard to accurately forecast patchy localised rain.
You might escape it and a mile down the road there might be a downpour.

You might be stuck in a long narrow band of rain trailing up the country, that rains on you all day, but most of the country has sun. Or you might be right on the edge of it and just get showers here and there.

You can look at radar pictures on the day to get an idea of how the rain is moving a couple of hours ahead.
