Can anyone give me some ideas of fund raising your school does throughout the school year? We're starting a pta and need ideas!! Thank you

After Christmas ask people to donate Christmas jumpers. Next Christmas children buy a Christmas jumper for £2. Could also do Halloween.

Pros: Environmentally friendly, parents saving money on buying a Christmas jumper and still raising funds. Kids love choosing their jumper.

Cons: need someone to store the stuff, school unlikely to have space. And when to sell. Our school has an annual Toy sale children attend so would do similar within school hours. Not all schools could accommodate. Also won't see any funds until October 22 so it's a longer term plan.

The easiest ones we had at primary were:

  • raffle
  • bottle tombola (parents donate bottle (alcohol, soft drink, shampoo)
  • disco (tickets cover price of disco, then sell snacks & glowsticks)
  • second hand uniform of school logo items
  • cake sales
I think the Christmas jumper idea is good, plus halloween costumes. Would be tempted to collect in 8 weeks before and have sale 3-4 weeks before, though not straight after. That way people will be nudged try them on, know they don't fit, donate and hopefully buy from you. Any you don't sell can still go on to a local charity shop.

Have any PTAs been able to do any remote fundraising?

I'm Chair of our PTA - preCovid our best fundraisers were:
Halloween Disco
Christmas Raffle
Sports Day Refreshments stall
Refreshments stall at Village Fete.

We've not been able to run any of these since last March.
Instead we have done:
Halloween Car Safari
Break the Rules Day x2
Frozen Friday's
Secondhand uniform sale
Easyfundraising
AmazonSmile

Looking to the Autumn term we have planned:
Christmas Tea Towels & bags
Halloween Disco (if permitted) or Halloween Trail
Frozen Friday's
Christmas Raffle
Possibly a Krispie Kreme sale
Online Secondhand uniform sale

Don’t forget to ask if any of the parents can do matched funding I think it’s called.
We’ve done summer/Christmas fairs. Cake sales, film nights, discos with bar for parents, face painting.
Since covid there hasn’t been as much but They did do tea towels for parents/families to buy. Every child draws a small self portrait and then a whole class is on the tea towels.

Oh and pre covid ice creams would get sold on a Friday afternoon in the summer from the pta kiosk.
